On Sunday if you live near the south end of Little John Road, in the early morning hours, you may have heard some rhythmic drumming and intermittent chanting of sorts.
September 23, 2012 corresponds with the fall equinox and the Incan festival of Coya raymi, a festival honoring simultaneously the moon and the queen. The festival marks the beginning of the new agricultural cycle and the coming of the rainy season. It is a time when female concerns are addressed and the woman/goddess is recognized as having controlling powers over earthly fertility and human generation.
It is also referred to as the Moon festival as the moon is thought to be the queen of all the planets and the stars in the sky as well as wife to the sun.
