Gov Signed Legislation loosens budget restraints on BOS

On 7-9-12 Gov Brown signed Assembly Bill 1253.  This bill will allow counties in California to make revisions to their budget after the June 30th recommended budget deadline.

AB 1253 (Davis)
Counties: recommended budget.
Existing law requires the board of supervisors of a county to consider and approve a recommended budget, including any necessary revisions to the recommended budget, on or before June 30 of each year. Existing law requires the board of supervisors to conduct a public hearing on the recommended budget, and to adopt a budget on or before October 2 of each year.

This bill would authorize the board to make revisions to the recommended budget until the board adopts a budget. The bill would require any revision to the recommended budget after the start of the public hearing to be made only if the revision is proposed in writing, and submitted to the clerk of the board prior to the close of the public hearing, or to be adopted by a vote of 45 of the board.
