Shortly
after midnight on 07/24/12 an Angels Camp Police Officer was flagged
down in the 1200 block of S. Main Street, regarding a male subject that
was injured. Several subjects on scene reported that they stopped to
assist a male subject that reportedly fell and struck his head on the
sidewalk. The subjects reported that they assisted the injured male into
the lobby of his apartment building, and were preparing to call 911 to
report the injury when the officer happened to drive by.
The
subject, later identified as Michael W. Elliott, was transported to
Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital by ambulance, and later by air
ambulance to UC Davis Medical Center. Mr. Elliott, a 63-year-old Angels
Camp resident, succumbed to his injuries and passed away on 07-28-12, at
approximately 10:00 PM.
In
an effort to complete a thorough investigation into the circumstances
that led up to the injury sustained by Mr. Elliott, the police
department is asking for assistance from the public. Anyone that may
have witnessed any activity in the downtown area of Angels Camp during
the time the injury occurred is requested to contact the police
department. Again, the event is reported to have occurred sometime
between the hours of 11:30 PM Monday night, 07/23/12, and when police
were flagged down shortly after midnight on Tuesday, 07/24/12.
Mr.
Elliott was at Claussen’s Corner bar prior to the injury, and was
apparently walking to his apartment at the south end of the 1200 block
of S. Main Street, when he was reported to have fallen outside of his
apartment building.
