Angels Camp Man Arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon

Sheriff Dept press release

(Murphys, CA) On 07/09/12 at 5:50 PM, Calaveras Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area of Highway 4 and Tanner Street in Murphys for a report of a physical altercation. Upon arrival they spoke with two alleged victims, Kenneth Peterson of Murphys and a juvenile female. According to statements, Mr. Peterson contacted and informed Glenn Johnson (48) of Angels Camp that Arrestee Johnson needed to remove his cattle from property on the 400 block of East Highway 4. The two agreed to meet at the location. While meeting on the shoulder of Highway 4 a fist fight ensued between them. At some point following the fight Arrestee Johnson powered up his vehicle, backed up, and drove towards the two victims in an alleged attempt to run them over, coming within inches of them. Mr. Peterson was able to dodge the vehicle by jumping over a fence, whereas the juvenile victim was able to hide behind a telephone pole. Witnesses at the scene confirmed the victims’ statements. Neither victim was injured.

The investigating deputies responded to Arrestee Johnson’s residence located on the 600 block of Stanislaus Avenue, Angels Camp. While at the front of the residence the deputies were advised by a passerby that a male subject had just ran from the rear of the house towards Mark Twain Elementary School. The deputies were able to track down the fleeing man, identified as Arrestee Johnson. He was taken into custody and booked into the Calaveras County jail without further incident. Upon being interviewed Arrestee Johnson admitted there was a mutual fight between the two men, but denied trying to run them over with his vehicle.

Arrestee Johnson was charged with Penal Code 245 (A) (1): Assault with a Deadly Weapon other than a Firearm.
