Welcome to the Country - a humorous look at life in the country ~ By, Charity Maness

So you've decided to move to the country where that crazy thing we call friendship takes on a whole new meaning.

In the country we enjoy the same kind of things that you and your city friends might enjoy - just with a bit of a country twist.

A good friend in the city will gladly enjoy a quiet relaxing morning at the salon with you, partaking of a wonderfully decadent pedicure and a luxurious leg massage. A country friend will do the same but then will accompany you to the feed store, help you load a ton of hay in your pick up, follow you home, and then help you stack it in your barn. (All the while in sandals so as not to ruin their new pedicure.)

A good friend in the city will be more than happy to head to the bar to shoot some pool with you after a hard day at the office. A country friend will also gladly, and deservedly, head to the bar to shoot some pool with you after a hard day at work and after helping you run two acres of barbed wire. (You have to buy though.)

A good friend in the city will help you put up signs for your lost dog. A country friend will help you catch your cows - while wearing their brand new shoes - that have escaped when the fence gives way because the husbands went to the bar before they ran the barbed wire. (Ever seen barb wire strung by a couple of drunks?)

A good friend in the city will be more than happy to pick up your child from the local school one mile away when you’re not feeling well. A country friend will drive twelve winding miles to the nearest school to pick up your child, bring them to your home and then drive back to their own home another eight miles away…without keeping score. (Or charging you for gas.)

A good friend in the city will take you to your therapist. A country friend will ride the range with you until you find every last cow and they hear all your woes, however long it takes.

A good friend in the city will join a gym with you. A good friend in the country will bake you two dozen snickerdoodle cookies and tell you that you are perfect just the way you are and mean it.

A good friend in the city picks you up at the auto repair shop and takes you home. A country friend will pick you up at the auto repair shop and then lend you one of their spare ranch trucks until your car is repaired. (They don’t even cringe when you grind every gear while attempting to get out of their driveway.)

Country friendship has gotten me two tons of hay stacked more times than I can count.
Country friendship and a homemade apple pie has gotten my car unlocked when my infant son was stuck inside.
Country friendship and a late night phone call has gotten me a ride to the emergency room forty five minutes away without a single complaint, or a bill.
Country friendship has given me an “adopted” family, an Aunt, an Uncle, a Grandma, and a Poppi for my children. (I got a dimpled niece and a comedian nephew out of that great “adoption” deal.)

Country friendship has taught me, beauty is most definitely in the eye of the beholder, and that in the country, there is beauty to be found everywhere…you just have to open your eyesyou’re your heart.

What has country friendship given you?

Until next time…welcome to the country.
