Debbie Ponte - District 4 Supervisor candidate

Debbie Ponte - Executive Director Foothill Village community threw her hat in the ring March 8, 2012 as a candidate for District 4 Supervisor.

Ponte has been a resident of Angels Camp since grade school, attending both Mark Twain and Bret Harte, only to leave to attend college, first at Delta in the valley and then to Fresno State where she received a Bachelor's in Journalism and Public relations.

She has served on the Angels Camp City Council - elected to two four-year terms. While on the council she served two years as Vice Mayor and four years as Mayor of Angels Camp. During her terms she worked with the city to develop long range plans for water and sewer, worked on grant funding, and handled one of the largest crisis' in Angels Camp in the last 10 years..the Darby Fire, where AC found themselves without water for days and a supply and demand nightmare for a basic necessity of life - water.

Ponte stated that a bid for the Board of Supervisors is "something I have always wanted to do." She had stepped out of politics for a while to "be a hands-on mom" and a working mom, but now that her children are grown she has the time to invest in such an undertaking. She added out that she could "relate more to the new district boundaries. Angels Camp and Copperopolis have a natural connection."

Ponte feels that she has a grasp on the diversity of needs that exist within Copper itself and the District as a whole stating "from Old Town to New Town to Lake Tulloch my greatest asset is my leadership skills, bringing all good minds together to achieve a common goal." Clarifying that statement further by saying that utilizing her skills the many "disenchanted pockets of people (within District 4) will come together to deal with long term growth, job creation and economic stability. I will listen to what people have to say. I will draw people together , recognize their wants and find some commonality."

In her bid for office she has not only the support of her husband and her children but "support of corporate bosses." Ponte, if elected, intends on continuing as Executive Director at Foothill Village stating that her job "is not the traditional Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. job.  It provides me a tremendous amount of flexibility both in time management and technology available to me."
