Bret Harte Lock Down for potential gunman - area now cleared and safe

On March 6, 2014 at approximately 09:10 AM, the Angels Camp Police Department received information from the California Highway Patrol that the California Highway Patrol dispatch center had received an anonymous 911 call informing them of a possible armed person on the Bret Harte High School campus.

School staff was notified and the campus was immediately placed on lockdown. Law Enforcement units were already on the Bret Harte Campus for the Every 15 Minutes program.

Units from the Angels Camp Police Department, Calaveras Sheriff’s Department, and the California Highway Patrol searched the campus and found it to be safe and clear. All students and staff were accounted for and notified that it was safe to return to their normally scheduled day.

Although the call may have been a prank, the Angels Camp Police Department takes any threat to the safety of our school campuses and students seriously.

Anyone with information pertaining to the identity of the caller is encouraged to contact the Angels Camp Police Department at (209) 736-2567 or acpd@angelscamp.gov .
