Angels
Camp Police Department Sergeant Steve Poortinga was the officer
involved in the vehicle accident on March 9, 2014 on Hwy 4 near
Vallecito Road in Vallecito. Sergeant Poortinga is a K9 handler for the
Angels Camp Police Department and was on his way home at the end of his
shift with his K9 at the time of the accident.
Sergeant
Poortinga suffered major injuries in the accident and was transported
to Doctor’s Hospital in Modesto. He was treated and released from
Doctor’s Hospital on Sunday and is recuperating at home.
The
K9 was transported to a local veterinary hospital and checked for
injuries. The K9 was later released and is currently at home with
Sergeant Poortinga.
It is unknown when Sergeant Poortinga and his K9 will return to work.
