Countywide Pool Tournament - and the winner is....

The 28th annual Countywide pool tournament was held on May 5, 2013 with 8 Calaveras County bars represented:
Copperopolis; Sports Pub, Old Corner Saloon
Mountain Ranch; Blunder
Wallce; Rosetti's
Murphys; Nugget
Valley Springs; The Range
San Andreas; Red Brick
Angels Camp; Claussen's


Pool players descended on the Sports Pub, winners of the 2012 Countywide Pool Tournament, to play for the title of Grand Champion. The tournament began about noon and played until after 6 pm with many nail biting moments. In the final game, a match between J.R. from the Old Corner and Peter McDonald from the Red Brick, the room was hushed, the tension in the air thick...the eight ball was sunk and Peter McDonald became the proud owner of the coveted Countywide Pool Trophy and the 2013 Grand Champion!

With a tear in his eye Peter held his trophy high and said, "I dedicate this win to little Leila."

28 years ago Marlene and her girlfriend decided that the county's small towns needed to get to know one another. Soon they hatched a plan to hold a countywide pool tournament to bring the small towns together. Stopping in at local pubs and bars throughout the county pitching their plan their idea was met with open arms and the stage was set. Now the girls had to figure out how to pull the plan off. Not proficient in pool lingo or rules the girls went to the local library and researched rules of the game. Marlene called in her brother to help assist with the logistics of running a tournament and the rest is history. Three years ago Marlene handed over the reins to Barbara and Pete McDonald and the tournament lives on.
