Columbia
College and video game industry executive, Doug Kennedy, will be hosting a new
community education class, “Introduction to the Business of Video Games.” This four-session
class beginning March 6, 2013 will be hosted at Columbia College and will
provide a comprehensive view into the many facets of the video game
industry. Beginning with marketing and
public relations, the four-class schedule will explore video game production,
project management, game creation, the role between publishers and developers,
and various distribution methods in the gaming space.
The class will be led by
Doug Kennedy, whose career spans more than 20 years in the video game and
entertainment industry, serving most recently as President and CEO of Reverb
Communications and Reverb Publishing.
During his 20 years in the industry, Kennedy has held posts with video
game chip manufacturers 3Dfx Interactive, NVIDIA Corporation and Ageia. While
at GMR Marketing he assisted with the launch of the original XBOX and was the
head of sales for Red Octane, the creators of the Guitar Hero franchise, where
he was responsible for worldwide distribution for Guitar Hero I & II prior
to the company’s acquisition by publisher Activision.
“For the past 10 years I’ve
interacted with a lot of people here in California’s Mother Lode region who are
interested in getting into the video game industry, this community education
class will provide a detailed snapshot of the exciting opportunities the
industry offers, and will hopefully lead to people from the area making the
jump into the gaming industry,” stated Kennedy.
The four-week community
education class at Columbia College will begin on March 6, 2013, and classes
will be held from 5:00 pm until 6:30 pm.
It will run every Wednesday
through March, and will be offered for $99.The class will be open to high
school students, college students and individuals interested in gaming.
