Leland Yee announces intention to run for Secretary of State in 2014

Senator Leland Yee, (D-SanFrancisco) announced his bid for the 2014 election for secretary of state. Yee penned the Senate Bill SB 397 'Online voter registration' which was signed in early October by Governor Brown. Yee also presented SB 1002 requiring that state and local agencies make their records available for public inspection by various methods, including the internet, which was vetoed by the Governor 9-28-12. Also penned in 2012 by Yee was SB 9, a youthful offender bill that would 'authorize a prisoner who was under 18 years of age at the time of committing an offense for which the prisoner was sentenced to life without parole to submit a petition for recall and re-sentencing to the sentencing court, and to the prosecuting agency, as specified.' This bill was signed by the Governor 9-30-12.

Secretary of State Debra Bowen will not be seeking re-election due to term limits.
