5 September 2012, at approx. 11:39 pm, Officers from the Sonora
Police Department responded to a reported rollover accident at the
intersection of North Shepherd Street and Elkin Street.
When Officers arrived at the scene they located a 1985 Toyota
4Runner on its side, along with two injured female passengers; and
approximately 20 feet of wooden guardrail that had been destroyed as a
result of the accident.
The driver of the vehicle ran from the accident scene as
Officers arrived. The driver was later located at his residence nearby.
He was identified as James Nathan 38 of Sonora. Nathan was uncooperative
and taken into custody for felony driving under the influence and
felony hit and run. Nathan has a prior driving under the influence
conviction. Nathan received minor injuries. After being medically
cleared, he was transported to the Tuolumne Jail and booked.
The passengers were identified as Ann Kelly, 21 of Sonora and
Natalie Morse, 23 of Sonora, both of which were also uncooperative and
had been drinking. Kelly received major facial injuries and was
transported to Sonora Regional Medical Center, then later transferred to
Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. Morse had visible injuries but
refused medical treatment.
