In a memo from Calaveras County auditor/controller Rebecca Callen dated April 23, 2012 and distributed at the CFPD 5-10-12 board meeting, Copperopolis Fire Protection District will see an additional 7.5% cut in estimated secured tax payroll for the 12/13 fiscal year.
This amounts to approximately 50k.
CFPD received a cut of 6.1% for the 11/12 fiscal year culminating in a total of 13.6% reduction in funds over the last year and the coming year.
When asked if the district is still looking at cutting another paid firefighter position due to the budget cuts, Chief Millar stated that it is possible.
Millar recently wrote a grant that could reinstate positions that were already not backfilled due to last years budget cuts and will retain the position possibly slated for cut this year. "I won't know until the earliest June 1st 2012 if we received the grant." Said Millar.
