The Copperopolis
Fire Protection District is seeking a new Fire Chief to replace the current
Fire Chief when he
retires. The Copperopolis Fire Chief is the Chief Executive Officer of the
Copperopolis Fire Protection
District and is responsible for the administration, management, and supervision
of all aspects of the
District. This is a full time position.
The
successful candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years as a paid
professional Captain and a total of either
ten (10) years of paid professional time or a combination of volunteer and paid
professional time
totaling fifteen (15) years in the fire service. Applications

The salary
range is $60,000 to $96,000 per year depending on qualifications and
experience. The District provides a
generous benefit package including health insurance and CalPERS retirement.
The
Fire District was organized in 1936. It now encompasses
325 square miles of rural land in Calaveras County,
California, along the State Highway 4 corridor in the foothills between Angels
Camp and the San Joaquin
County line. The District is an all risk agency which provides Basic and
Advanced Life Support in addition to
Fire Suppression, Fire Prevention, and support services to the community. It
serves about 5,000 residents
of the community of Copperopolis and the surrounding areas. It includes a
reborn Copperopolis
Town Square designed around pedestrian retail services and shopping, and a
world class golf course
at the Saddle Creek Resort, in addition to water sports and recreation at Lake
Tulloch.
The fire
department is a combination paid/volunteer department with six full time fire
fighters, twenty volunteer
fire fighters, and ten auxiliary members. The assessed value of the District is
just under $840 million,
with an annual budget of about $1,300,000. From three fire stations housing
eleven vehicles (including
5 engines, a water tender and squad) the District responds to about 450 calls
annually. The District is
governed by a five member elected Board of Directors.
