Electrical Engineer / Computer software designer John Campanella has decided to make Copperopolis the homeplace for his home system monitoring company SAH Technologies, Inc. Owned with three other partners, including the systems “brainchild” Randy Bresee (previously a software company CFO), John views the company as a benefit to the community through the imminent creation of jobs and expansion of opportunities in the area. Plus, it has the added benefit of allowing him to stay home and spend more time with his fiancĂ©e Dana (owner of the Beautique) and enjoy the beauty of the foothills. “I want o be a big part of the community…do things for the Fire Department, the school, the library.”
One might be taken by surprise by John’s over-eager and outgoing personality once they find out his career choice, yet the title of electrical engineer never hindered John. At a young age, motivated mostly by the need for loud sounds from his electric guitar, John knew he was headed into a field that involved creation of new electrical inventions. At 13, not able to afford fancy sound equipment for his guitar, John built the electronics needed to make his guitar loud enough for the neighbors to hear. By 17 he had built a wireless guitar transmitter that tuned to FM, he called it “look ma no wires.” In 1981 he became part of an engineering team at BT Labs in New Jersey, and creators of the first pay-per-view. Soon he found that he was “bored and needed a challenge”.
In 1983 he was involved in creating the first integrated video conferencing for Exxon. Stepping out of the integrated design box, John began consulting in 1986 as a technologies consultant, finding himself located in the Far East. Again needing to seek more knowledge and discover what really made things tick, John started his own company in 1996 developing software for integrated technology and in 2006 received ‘Educator of the Year’ for the integrated technology industry.
So when Randy brought the idea of Senior monitoring to John, the idea was not a spark, it was a jolt of lightening. “I believe in this 100%.”
SAH senior monitoring is a constant, pro-active, a 24/7 non-intrusive, monitoring system utilizing configurable wireless sensors to detect potential anomalies in day-to-day behavior of seniors or impaired persons who wish to live at home or in minimally monitored environments. The sensors detect motion, pressure and moisture along with controlling temperature, lights and heating. If anomalies occur, alerts are sent to the designated caregiver via their smart phone, computer or tablet pc, allowing a caregiver to monitor their loved one 24/7. “This is not a cookie cutter application” said John. Each system is designed for the clients specific needs, potentially allowing the elderly or handicapped to stay in their homes, wrapped in the warmth of the memories that have been made in the home, for much longer than without monitoring.
