Assemblymember Olsen Visits Modesto Schools to Celebrate Red Ribbon Week; Encourages Students to Stay Drug Free

MODESTO - Today, Assemblymember Kristin Olsen, R-Modesto, visited two Modesto City schools, Elliott Alternative Education Center and Enslen Elementary School, to participate in Red Ribbon Week assemblies and encourage students to take the pledge to stay drug free. Olsen's office distributed Red Ribbon Week certificates to over 50 schools in the 25th Assembly district who planned to participate in Red Ribbon Week activities.
"There is nothing more important than ensuring our children have a healthy, safe and drug-free future," said Assemblymember Olsen. "Red Ribbon Week gives communities and individuals the opportunity to educate our children on the dangers of doing drugs and how drugs can ruin their lives."

Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country. This year, Red Ribbon Week is celebrated October 22-30, 2011. During this week, schools conduct programs to educate students about drug abuse and to project a positive message to help students take a stand against drugs.
"Red Ribbon Week is an important opportunity every year for us to teach our students about how truly destructive a life of abusing drugs can be for them and their families," said Pam Able, Superintendent, Modesto City Schools. "We welcome Assembly Member Olsen's participation in our annual campaign, and are pleased to have her join us in leading a community-wide effort to encourage students and parents to build drug-free communities and lead drug-free lives."
