Re-Cap of Measure "D" Paramedic Services Tax

At the December 9,2010 CFPD Board meeting the Board was questioned why there was no ambulance coverage from the Department with the funding of the Paramedic tax. The following is information regarding the Paramedic tax; how it came to be, what it entails, and what you as a citizen of the district receives for that tax.
CFPD Paramedic Tax, known as Measure “D”, passed by a 2/3 vote (69.2% to 30.8%) on November 5 2002 and was adopted by the CFPD Board on December 12, 2002. The ballot measure read “Shall Ordinance No. 2002-1 of the Copperopolis Fire Protection District, authorizing imposition of an annual special tax in the amount of $75.00 on improved parcels for the purpose of funding operation of the Paramedic Program, be adopted?”
CFPD began providing Paramedic Service to the District in January 2002 with funding from a California Department of Health Grant. The grant funding ceased in December 2002. At that time, in order to continue to offer Paramedic Services to the residents of Copperopolis, it was necessary to “raise an amount of revenue projected to meet the needs of operation of the Paramedic Program.”
The special tax insures that there will be a CFPD Paramedic on duty 24/7/365.
