Delta College meets with Community

After months of trying to reach out to Delta College in an effort to enforce the County's post secondary education agreement with Delta College, Supervisor Cliff Edson with some help from locals and muscle from Dana Jorgensen District Director for  Senator Berryhill and Frank Bigelow's offices and a Grand Jury report calling into question just where the over 10 million in funds from Measure L from Calaveras residents from 2004 thru 2029 were exactly to be spent, had the Admin of Delta College on the defensive.

Promises were made to hold transferable GE courses here in the foothills as well as possible coordination with Columbia College for courses that Calaveras was not set up to handle, such as College Chemistry.

Mention was also made of placing computers in the local libraries, Delta College computers, for those taking on line courses. Marti Crane, Supervisor candidate for District 5, questioned if they would also be forthcoming with funds to help keep the libraries open for use of said computers.

Delta College will be hiring Sherri Reusche to be the Liaison between Delta and Calaveras County.

A note from Supervisor Cliff Edson:
"Hi folks, looks like we are moving forward with Delta JC and our Post Secondary Education Program right here in Calaveras County. Delta College President Kathy Hart and Delta College Board-member Stephen Castellanos attended a press release that I called today at the San Andreas Branch Library. My goal was to get as many people to attend as I could, get all the press there, and announce the program that Delta College has agreed to offer. Also in attendance was Sherri Reusch, and John Garamendi Jr., both of whom went with me to all of the meetings we had with legislators, board members, and finally Dr. Kathy Hart.

Other members of our committee were Dave Tanner, Terri Tanner, Zerrall Mcdaniel, Dana Jorgenson, Kris Mangini, Janice Barrett, Grant Barrett, and Mark Campbell. Each of them had a part in the success we are sharing today.
Delta College has committed to bringing post secondary education to Calaveras County. Their goal is to help us build our educational opportunities up to 24 units within 3 years. They will offer classes at Calaveras High and online courses at the San Andreas Library. Dr Hart committed to supplying the library with additional computers to provide for the online courses. I also suggested that Delta rent space from the library for the online courses, and and an office. The office would be for Sherri Reusch, the Liaison that they hired as requested by us. Dr Hart announced that Sherri Reusch will be working here in Calaveras to set up the classes, teachers and students. She will also collaborate with Columbia a College to give us a more sensible scheduling opportunity.
Dr Hart also committed to Trade courses like Automotive Tech, and much more
They already started advertising for the fall classes.
This is a great opportunity for us. If we can grow this project, it will have a very positive impact on our lives and our economy.

Please pass the word and help us fill these classes. We want to show Delta College that want Education Here!

Thanks also Assemblyman Bigelow, Senator Gilgiani, and
Assemblywoman Eggman for listening to me about our plan to enoki minty our post education plans.
I also want to thank Dr Kathy Hart for listening and understanding our challenges in Calaveras County .
Let's Go For It"
