Free PTSD support group in Copperopolis

About 4 years ago, Copperopolis residents, Larry Hicks (LMFT) and his wife Brenda (CADAC) realized a need to reach out to veterans suffering from PTSD/combat trauma. With this in mind, the couple began ‘Restoration Depot,’ a faith based healing program used “in conjunction with other PTSD treatment modalities” designed “to meet the emotional” as well as “the spiritual needs of our veterans.”

Larry’s desire to help veterans and his strong belief in faith based healing has led him to begin a free group in Copperopolis for veterans suffering with PTSD or combat trauma to start in the April 2014, employing the Restoration Depot mission as well as utilizing the 'Combat Trauma Healing Manual.'

“I want to create a safe environment to talk, process feelings and emotions. It is faith based, but (the veteran) does not have to be of faith, I will not turn anyone away.”

Larry brings with him 30 years of counseling experience as well as years of work contracting with the VA, working with vets suffering with various military related issues, with emphasis on those with PTSD. “I understand the disease. I will offer structure and guidelines, helping them to strengthen themselves and hopefully mentor others as they progress.”

Brenda, who grew up in a military town with military becoming a part of her very existence, embraces the needs of veterans and their families. Bringing to the table over 25 years of experience in counseling with emphasis on drug treatment and co-occurring disorders, Brenda will be addressing the needs of spouses utilizing the 'When War comes Home' manual.

The woman’s group will work independently of the men’s group but will follow the same faith based healing path.

Both Larry and Brenda will be offering these programs free to those in need. For more information please contact Larry at larrymft@caltel.com 743-2902 or Brenda at intplus@caltel.com 559-1892.

“Whatever gifts I have, I am willing to give to these people who have given so much for us.” Larry Hicks.
