Calaveras Arts Council Announces Artist Scholarships 2014

Applicants are being sought for one $750 scholarship award honoring Elaine Bryan/Arts of Bear Valley, three $500 Robert Atkinson Visual Artist Scholarships and one $500 scholarship sponsored by the Calaveras County Arts Council for performing or literary arts.  Calaveras residents of ANY AGE who are pursing higher education or workshops in the arts may apply.  Whether you’re a visual artist, performing artist, or literary artist, these scholarships may be used for direct costs associated with an educational course study in the arts, such as tuition, equipment, instruments, or supplies.

The primary goal of the scholarships is to assist people in cultivating a lifelong involvement in the arts. The applicant could be a senior citizen, a high school senior, a middle-aged person changing careers, or a youth just getting started.

Applications are due at the Arts Council by March 31, 2014 and need to  include a completed form, one-page essay, and letters of recommendation.  Those selected as semi-finalists will be required to submit samples of work and appear for an interview.

The arts are essential to a complete education and any society that deprives its people of these pursuits accepts mediocrity.  The scholarships are meant to provide encouragement and support for those who have the vision that the arts are vital to success in today’s work force.

Applications are available on line at www.calaverasarts.org (Opportunities link) or at the Arts Council office and gallery located at 22 Main Street, San Andreas.  For additional information, call the Arts Council at 754-1774.
