Calaveras
Arts Council opens Ovations 2014 Performing Arts Series with Michela
Macfarlane and Cantamos at Dr. Elliott Smart Performing Arts Center
located at Bret Harte High School, 323 Highway 49, in Angels Camp. Five
impressively talented musicians make up this group and will perform on Sunday January 12 at 3:00pm. Adult tickets are $25 and Youth 18 years and younger at $10.00.
Michela Macfarlane and Cantamos have performed for the Calaveras Arts Council before but as the rock band, Cantamos. This performance highlights their musical dexterity by moving to and from arias, traditional Latin songs, musicals, and contemporary favorites. Their music moves seamlessly from English to Italian, Spanish to German, to French to Portuguese, and back again. You will hear aries by Mozart and Puccini, movie favorites like Over the Rainbow, Mrs. Robinson, and La Vie En Rose. The audience will be entertained when she sings Neil Young’s Harvest Moon, and Stan Getz, Bosa Nova. That is not all; Rosemary Clooney’s Mambo Italiano, Ray Charles’ Georgia On My Mind, and Sting’s Every Breath You Take will confirm their wide range of music flexibility and diversity.
Michela Macfarlane is joined by Cantamos’s Ron Schaner on bass, Fred Treece on guitar, Edie Castro on drums, and Jerry Solberg on keyboard.
The next Ovations performance is Sunday February 9 with The Family Crest lead by local Liam McCormick from Paloma, now San Francisco. Season and individual tickets are on sale now by going on line to www.calaverasarts.org or by calling (209) 754-1774.
