Angels Camp PD Press release re:Stolen Motorcycle Pursuit / ACPD Case # 13-0513

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On 05/02/2013 at approximately 8:25 AM, an officer from the Angels Camp Police Department attempted to stop a blue 2011 Kawasaki motorcycle in the area of Murphys Grade Road and Gardner Lane near Bret Harte High School. The motorcycle was traveling at approximately 45 mph in a posted 25 mph zone, and matched the description of a previously reported reckless driver.
The driver of the motorcycle failed to yield to the officer’s emergency lights and siren, and proceeded east bound on Murphys Grade Road at speeds reaching 70 mph. The officer pursued the vehicle to Lower French Gulch, Darby  Lane, then El Camino Casale where the motorcycle went down a dirt pathway that was too small for the officer’s patrol vehicle. The officer stopped his vehicle at the dirt pathway and waited for another officer to arrive.
An officer from the California Highway Patrol, deputies from the Calaveras Sheriff’s Department, and additional officers from the Angels Camp Police Department arrived to assist. Officers searched the immediate area and found the motorcycle lying on its side with the headlights on and the ignition altered. The driver was not located.
The driver is described as a white male adult, approximately 6 feet tall and 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue helmet, white tshirt with a light colored plaid shirt over the tshirt, and blue jeans.
The registered owner of the motorcycle was contacted and advised the Angels Camp Police Department that his motorcycle had been stolen from his residence in Arnold. The motorcycle was later released to the registered owner.
Anyone with information related to the theft of the motorcycle, or the driver involved in the pursuit, is encouraged to contact the Angels Camp Police Department at (209) 736-2567 or acpd@angelscamp.gov.
