Sheriff Dept press release re:Angels Camp Man Arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon

(Angels Camp New Melones, CA) On 04/17/12 at approx. 4:00 PM, Calaveras Sheriff’s Deputies, Angels Camp Police Officers, and a deputy sheriff with the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office responded to Big Oak Campground at New Melones for a report that someone had been intentionally struck with a frying pan. During the investigation is was learned that a physical altercation broke out in a campsite between (suspect) Dean Dee Phillips (46) of Angels Camp and other adult male. During the fight Mr. Phillips allegedly picked up a frying pan and threw it at the victim, striking him. Mr. Phillips then walked away from the campground prior to the arrival of law enforcement.

The deputy sheriff’s and police officers searched the area and located Mr. Phillips walking near the lake’s shoreline. Mr. Phillips is on active parole from California state prison. The reason for the assistance from Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office was because the TCSO deputy was familiar with the suspect due to the fact that he had recently evicted him from the Tuttletown campground area of New Melones Lake. Mr. Phillips was placed under arrest without incident and booked into the Calaveras County jail on the charges of 245 (A) PC and 3056 PC.
