Blood Drive July 12, 2011 at Umpqua Bank

Umpqua Bank will be hosting a blood drive through Delta Blood Bank on Tuesday, July 12th from 11:00 to 4:00.

Delta Blood Bank is the leading blood supplier for the San Joaquin Valley and Foothills area. It is our mission to serve the local community whenever the need for blood arises. We have proudly met that need for over 55 years. Delta Blood Bank is a non-profit, community blood bank serving a five-county area including San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Tuolumne, Calaveras and El Dorado counties.

Delta Blood Bank celebrated its 55th anniversary as the area’s leading blood bank in July 2009. We pledge to remain an active and vital part of every community we touch, and promise to continually seek ways to improve our service to local hospitals and our donors.  From services at our collection sites to the technology in our laboratory, we believe in adhering to the highest standards in every aspect of what we do.

Why Donate?

Donating blood is a great way to give back to your community and it only takes about an hour of your time.  There are a few requirements to donate blood:
  • Must be in good general health
  • At least 17 years old
  • Weigh a minimum of 110 pounds
  • Have a valid identification (CA ID or driver’s license or passport)
 * Blood donors may be 16 years old, but must have parental consent and weigh a minimum of 115 pounds.

Here are some reasons to donate:
  • One donation can save up to 3 lives
  • Every three seconds, someone needs a blood transfusion
  • Only 5% of the population donates blood
  • There is no substitute for human blood
  • It’s completely safe
Donors can make a donation every 56 days.  If you donated 4 times this year, you could save up to 12 lives. The entire process takes 5 easy steps and generally takes approximately an hour. The actual blood draw only lasts between 6 and 10 minutes. The rest of your time is spent in reception, in the donor history, and in the post-donation refreshment area.
