S.O. Narcotics Division Facing Funding Reduction

Some funding for the Calaveras County Sheriff's Narcotics division is attached to the California State Vehicle Licensing Fee (VLF); that funding is set to expire in June of 2011.
Though they receive “multiple forms of grant monies from multiple sources” and are funded through multiple budget units, some monies run out when they are spent, others have renewal dates or are continuous.
Working in conjunction with multiple federal, state and local agencies allows the Narcotics division to be proactive in response to the constant and newly emerging narcotics issues at hand. Open communication and collaboration with DEA, ATF, FBI, USFS, BLM, State DOJ, and with Alpine, San Joaquin, and Tuolumne Counties allow our task force to remain on the cutting edge of narcotics law enforcement.
In regards to the impending loss of revenue and possible deeper budgets cuts the following statement was issued, “The reality is budget cuts do impact public safety and if those budgets are cut our enforcement of those laws will be reduced or dismantled depending on the impact or severity of the cuts.”
