Dave's Online Living Cookbook - Veal and Pork Ravioli's with a Butter and Sage Sauce
Veal and Pork Ravioli’s with a Butter and Sage sauce
These are very elegant tasting ravioli and always one of the top requested dishes at the Wine Wizards restaurant. If you can’t get veal, you can substitute ground beef and they will still be great. We will make them here with wonton or pot sticker wrappers to ease in the preparation, but if you make your own pasta, by all means use it. Just roll it almost translucent and very pliable. Also, this goes well with other sauces, but real subtle herb and butter sauces help bring out the delicate flavors of this ravioli in a wonderful way.

Gonvernor Anounces More Appointments
Paul Benedetto, 51, of Elk Grove, has been appointed deputy secretary of operations at the California Technology Agency. Benedetto has been director of the Office of Systems Integration at the California Health and Human Services Agency since 2008 after serving as chief deputy director from 2007 to 2008. He was chief of the Information Systems Division in the Infrastructure Support Section at the Department of Motor Vehicles from 2005 to 2007, and the chief of the Administrative Services Bureau in the Information Systems Division of the State Controller’s Office from 1999 to 2004. Benedetto was a data processing manager in the Information Management Division of the California Highway Patrol from 1996 to 1999, and was chief of staff of the Hawkins Data Center in the Electronic Data Processing Contracts and Procurements Section at the California Department of Justice from 1995 to 1996. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $130,000. Benedetto is a Democrat.
Governor Announces Appointments
Jack Buckhorn, 56, of Hidden Valley Lake, has been appointed to the California Apprenticeship Council. Buckhorn has been a business manager at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 551 since 2004 and was a business agent from 1998 to 2001. He worked as a journeyman electrician from 2001 to 2004 for multiple contractors including Kaiser Foundation Hospital and Contra Costa Electric. Buckhorn was a training director at Redwood Empire Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee from 1989 to 1998. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Buckhorn is a Democrat.
Sheriff Office Press Release
On August 15 at about 2:50 am, Calaveras County Sheriffs Deputies conducted an enforcement stop
of a vehicle in Copperopolis. Following a consensual search of the vehicles, Deputies located
narcotics related packaging. When asked about the packaging, driver Mikael Soper attempted to flee
from the Deputies on foot. Soper was arrested and an additional 40 grams of methamphetamine was
located in the vehicle along with additional packaging and U.S. currency. An assault rifle and shotgun
were also located in the vehicle. Both Soper and his passenger (Patricia Sewell) were arrested and
transported to the county jail.
Suspect Soper was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for Driving under the Influence of controlled
substance, Being under the Influence of a controlled substance, Resisting Arrest, Possession of a
controlled substance, Possession of a controlled substance for sale, Transportation of a controlled
substance and possession of firearms in the commission of a felony.

Assemblymember Olsen Releases Office Budget Numbers
Assemblymember Kristin Olsen, R-Modesto, today released her office budget to the public showing how much she spends on staff salaries, travel, utilities, supplies and other office expenses. Olsen released her budget document after the Assembly Rules Committee, which oversees lawmakers' budgets, refused to release current budget documents to the media. “I released my office budget because the public has a right to know how taxpayer dollars are being spent,” said Assemblymember Olsen. “This should not be a big deal. Taxpayer money should be public.” Olsen believes the office budgets of all 80 Assembly members, and operating budgets for legislative caucuses and committees, should be made available to the public.

Power Struggle about layoffs at SO Continue
According to Supervisor Spellman, Sheriff Gary Kuntz has been more than patient with the BOS (Board of Supervisors) regarding the ongoing power struggle over who has the right to issue layoffs notices within the Sheriff Department. When asked who has the final authority for layoffs within his department, Kuntz replied, "It depends on who you ask, but I do." Paperwork from the Deputy Sheriff Association also claims the authority lay with Kuntz.

Yet, Spellman said, "I give Kuntz full credit for trying to do the right thing" explaining that Kuntz has almost exhausted all the civil paths to solving this dilemma, adding that the BOS do not have the legal authority to give pink slips.

California Regional Water Quality Control Board to Hold Public 'Outreach' Meeting
Residents of Copperopolis, foremost Diamond XX, might be impacted by Central Valley Region’s Water Quality Control Board plans.
A meeting will be held on Saturday, August 20, at the Fire Station starting at 10:00 am to discuss the current conditions and plans to revise groundwater beneficial use designations (e.g., municipal, agriculture). The Board is handing out Voluntary Water Well Questionnaires to gather information about groundwater conditions in Diamond XX. Many residents of Diamond XX have dry wells, wells that produce sandy or saline water, and many other issues re: groundwater.

Honor the Fallen
Pfc. Rueben J. Lopez, 27, of Williams, CA, died August 11 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, NY. Lopez was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
McDaniels responds to Spellman's answer to notice of intent
McDaniel received, via certified mail, Darren Spellman's answer to his filed notice of intent to recall. McDaniels stated that "other than not addressing the issues, I'm not sure of the point of the letter." Saying that if it had been him that was required to respond, he would have highlighted his acheivements and future goals. "I find his response to be negative."

The recent years have brought many new and exciting water sports to the lake arena along with ingenious twists on classic sports.

'Scapin' ... an evening worth repeating
The Murphy's Creek Theater production of 'Scapin' is an adventure in vaudeville merriment, Freudian slips and outrageous tales.
Scapin is a hilarious journey through the lives of the Hatfields and McCoys of the 1600’s, known as the house of Geronte and the house of Argante. Engaging the audience, utilizing unsuspecting theater goers as actors, combining modern movie soundtracks and jingles to enhance the character creation and precise acting that creates bursts of laughter from the audience loud enough to drown out the next line, is what makes Scapin worthy of a family evening.
The play, performed in the beautiful Stevenot Amphitheater in Murphys, begins with a dimming of the lights as the strains of the Pink Panther float through the air, setting the stage for certain hilarity.

We recently vacationed at Lake Tulloch and there were several businesses that went OUT of their way to make our visit a great one and they represented your community as a refreshing, welcoming great place to vacation and live.
Primos Pizza, Mexico Lindo and La Hacienda all had GREAT food that was reasonably priced for a family of 6. Everyone was extremely friendly. But the businesses that went out of their way to help our family the most were KATMAR Marine and NAPA Auto/Marine. These two businesses were a breath of fresh air and have been kind to our family for the past 2 years in a row.

LAKE TAHOE – In an historic joint appearance at the 2011 Tahoe Summit, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. and Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval announced a renewed commitment to updating the Regional Plan for Lake Tahoe and enhancing the role of the two states in cooperating with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA).

We have had an amazingly smooth beginning to our new school year!
I’m excited to welcome back Mrs. Trisha Crawford and Mrs. Jessica Handgis to our staff as 1st grade teachers and Mrs. Bonnie Carrero as a Yard Duty Supervisor.
In addition, we welcome Ms. Angela Acuña as our 5/6 teacher.
Here are the other assignments: Mrs. Lundin Kindergarten, Ms. Vail Kindergarten and Assistant Principal, Mrs. Aardal 2nd, Mrs. Young 2/3, Mrs. Pino 3rd, Mrs. Bauer 4th, Mrs. Milbridge 4/5, Mrs. Hessels 6th and Mrs. Mueller RSP/Learning Center.
Our primary classrooms (K-3) are close to 20 and our intermediate grades (4-6) are close to 30. Our staff is very excited to begin the new year with our new students.

Sgt. Joshua J. Robinson, 29, of Omaha, NE, died August 7 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, CA. Robinson was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Over 25 Copper Kids Helped Out with Free School Supplies
Thanks to 16 year-old Solisha Andico and her little sister 11 year-old Shileen more than 25 children will be attending school with new backpacks and plenty of school supplies.
Two months ago the sisters decided to give back to the community, most especially the children of the community, by organizing a backpack and school supply drive. They contacted local businesses asking them if they could either donate or place a collection box at their place of business. This proved to be a successful plan.
Collecting approximately 25 backpacks, boxes and boxes of crayons, pens, pencils, erasers, glue sticks and paper, along with notebooks and other supplies, the girls were more than ready by the collection date of August 9, 2011 to organzie their 'free school supply giveaway' day scheduled for August 13, 2011 infront of the Copper library.

In a certified letter sent August 15, 2011 to Michael McDaniel, Supervisor Darren Spellman responded to the formal recall filing. A copy was also delivered to the County Office of Elections

(a) The driver of any vehicle, upon meeting or overtaking, from either direction, any schoolbus equipped with signs as required in this code, that is stopped for the purpose of loading or unloading any schoolchildren and displays a flashing red light signal and stop signal arm, as defined in paragraph (4) of subdivision (b) of Section 25257, if equipped with a stop signal arm, visible from front or rear, shall bring the vehicle to a stop immediately before passing the schoolbus and shall not proceed past the schoolbus until the flashing red light signal and stop signal arm, if equipped with a stop signal arm, cease operation.(b) (1) The driver of a vehicle upon a divided highway or multiple-lane highway need not stop upon meeting or passing a schoolbus that is upon the other roadway.

Governor Announces Appointments
Cliff Allenby, 74, of Elk Grove, has been appointed chair of the Managed Risk Medical Insurance Board. Allenby is currently interim director of the Department of Mental Health. He was interim director of the Department of Social Services from 2006 to 2007 and director of the Department of Developmental Services from 1997 to 2006. Allenby served as chief legislative representative for the County of Los Angeles from 1996 to 1997 and senior vice president of the California Building Industry Association from 1991 to 1996. He was secretary of the California Health and Welfare Agency from 1987 to 1991. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Allenby is registered decline-to-state.
Letter from Al Segala, Calaveras County Taxpayers Association- Re: McClintock Town Hall
Tom McClintock Town Hall meeting last Thursday. Several CCTA members attended the meeting in Sutter Creek. I had a chance to talk to Tom and he is interested in addressing our group at our public luncheon in October. There was a question from the audience about UN Agenda 21. He was not familiar with it and it's danger to our constitutional rights. He is going to check out the Freedom Advocates website and get more information. He talked about the historical progression of societal change as it relates to the Tea Party movement: At first the proponents are ignored by the opinion leaders, then, if the proponents are not discouraged, they are then ridiculed. If the proponents are still not discouraged, then they are attacked as enemy's of the people. If his still does not stop them, then the ideas are adopted as a self evident truth. We are at the second to last stage and that is very good news!

In a press released issued by the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department, under the heading 'Tulloch Resort Bump Party' there were 28 incident reports listed.
CHP- 5 arrests for 23152 VC (Driving under the influence)
Calaveras Sheriff's Office - 11 arrests-
Directly related to BUMP Party :
6 arrests for 647 (f) PC (public intoxication)
1 arrest for 647 (f) PC and 148 PC (resisting arrest)
1 arrest for 647 (f) PC, 537 PC (defrauding an innkeeper)
Other arrests:
1 for vandalism, and 2 for possession/sales/under the influence of a controlled substance.
While many Copperopolis residents were reassured that the SO had Copperopolis covered, many more worried that the expense to control the situation would stretch the SO's already weak budget.
According to the county planning department no conditional use permit application was submitted for this event. Conditional use permits are required by the county if an event is to exceed 1000 people. A conditional use permit addresses the propossed events' parking, welfare to the public and more.
One resident questioned the validity of that statement. "They (the county) knew full well this event was going to occur. They new it would exceed 1000 people. Yet thay let it continue without a use permit, and now we have to absorb the cost. Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for having fun, but they need to do it legally. The county should have shut them down if they weren't going to follow the law." The resident also eluded to the fact that other venues are required conditional use permits.

Previous Bret Harte FFA Students Receive High Awards
Trevor Airola and Breanna Benton, Bret Harte High School FFA, were recently named as recipients of the 2011 American FFA Degree. Only 291 students in the state of California received such high honors. Each will be recognized during the Eight Session at the National FFA Convention to be held in October.
The American FFA Degree is awarded to FFA members who have demonstrated the highest level of commitment to FFA and made significant accomplishments in their Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAE’s).Approximately 3,500 American FFA Degrees are handed out each year at the National FFA Convention. That number represents less than half of one percent of all FFA members, making it one of the organization’s highest honors.
In addition to their degree, each recipient receives a gold American FFA Degree key.

New Melones Fishing Report 8-15-11
Water Conditions: New Melones Lake is currently holding 2,210,157 acre-feet of water. The lake level dropped three feet again this week and is currently at 1070 ft. above sea level and 18 ft. from full. Water temperature is 80-83 degrees. Water is green-stained (lots of plankton) with strong mud lines near shore. Watch for floating debris and unmarked island tops.
Trout: pretty slow, except for those who fish at night under a submersible light. We have a selection of submersible night-fishing drop lights at Glory Hole Sports. The light attracts plankton, which attracts the baitfish, which attracts the rainbows. Drop a nightcrawler/Power Bait combo or a live minnow under the light. Allow an hour or two for the baitfish to come around the light- then the action starts! If you wish to troll for trout, fish 50-60 feet deep over deepest water in the main lake with shad-patterned lures such as Excel, Apex, Needlefish, or Rapala Countdowns, and use Bang or ProCure threadfin shad scent on your lures. If you are in the mood for a beautiful boat ride, head upriver and still-fish under the logjam. Bank anglers should head to local creeks like Angels Creek, although we have the occasional trout caught by bank anglers in Angels Cove.

You and your neighbors were probably among the many who called, wrote, e-mailed, and visited my offices in Gold River and Washington DC while the House and Senate negotiated a deal to reduce spending and avoid default on our nation’s debt. Although people fell along the entire spectrum – from wanting to raise the debt limit without any spending reductions to wanting to leave the debt ceiling where it was and everywhere in between – nearly everyone expressed disappointment at seeing more of the same from Washington.
Its Official - BOS Begins meeting Half Time - For Full Pay
Regular meetings for the Board of Supervisors will now be held the 2nd and 4th Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. begining August 2011.
According to CAO (County Adminstrative Office) Jeanne Boyce, the lessening of meeting dates will not have an affect on pay. Supervisor Tryon has also stated that the hours with which the BOS meets in public is a seperate issue from compensation, stating at the 8-9-11 BOS meeting that "compensation is yearly, not per meeting."

Busy Weekend in Copper for SO
The Sheriff's Office totalled 33 log reports over the weekend for Copperopolis alone. The calls responding to Lake Tulloch Resort and O'Byrnes/Poker Flat totalled 1 on Saturday and 17 on Sunday.
A total of three arrests were made near or at the Resort: two DUI and one battery.

Legislative Analyst's Office - Budget Package 2011-2012 re: K-12 education
The Legislative Analysts Office released its budget package for 2011- 2012 California Spending Plan
The following is the K-12 Education "expenditure highlights' from 2007-8 through 2011-12Per–pupil programmatic funding decreased by $117 from 2010–11 to 2011–12, reflecting a 1.5 percent year–over–year reduction. School districts will receive $522 less per pupil in 2011–12 than in 2007–08.

Judge Dismisses Lawsuit against California Board of Parole Hearings
Sacramento – A long-standing legal case alleging that the California Board of Parole Hearings (BPH) failed to hold timely parole hearings was dismissed this week by a Marin County Superior Court Judge who described BPH progress of reducing its backlog of cases as “extremely impressive.”
The court’s action followed BPH’s overhaul of the state’s system for tracking and scheduling parole hearings, reducing its backlog of cases from 3,200 to just 25.
