Gov issues statement on death of Redding firefighter.
SACRAMENTO - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today issued the following
statement regarding the death of United States Forest Service
Firefighter Luke Sheehy:
“Anne and I were saddened to learn of the death of Firefighter Luke
Sheehy, a young man who devoted his life to protecting his fellow
Californians. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues.”
Firefighter Luke Sheehy, 28, of Susanville, was fatally injured by a
section of a falling tree at the scene of a lightning-sparked wildland
fire in the Modoc National Forest 15 miles southeast of the community of
Alturas.
Firefighter Sheehy was a member of the California Smokejumpers, an
airborne firefighting unit of the United States Forest Service based in
Redding, California. Prior to his career with the United States Forest
Service, he served 5 seasons as a firefighter for CAL FIRE.
In honor of Firefighter Sheehy, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.

Flags at Half staff this past weekend by order of Gov Brown

Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today ordered state flags to be flown at half-staff and issued the following statement in response to the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut:
“We all mourn the heartbreaking loss of those killed at Sandy Hook Elementary. We pray for their families and loved ones.”

Flags to Remain at Half Mast
Flags will remain at half mast at Calaveras Fire Departments in remembrance of CalFire Fire Captain Dennis Hanson. Dennis lost his battle to
cancer and passed away September 8, 2012 at Mark Twain Hospital in San Andreas, Ca.

On Memorial Day the American Flag is to be raised to its fullest height for a moment, then lowered to half mast until noon and when it is again to be raised to its fullest height.

Flags at Half Mast at CFPD and all FD's in County
All Fire Department and Fire District flags have been ordered at half mast throughout Calaveras County in honor of fallen Ebbets Pass Medic Todd Walker.
