Winning Ways Advice Column - ' 3 Questions that can turn your life around' by, Marge Powers

3 Questions that Can Turn Your Life Around
Dear Magic:  I was wondering if you could give me some advice.  It confuses me many times trying to figure out what is wrong, or what is right for me, and where I fit.  There are so many points of view.  How can a person tell what’s right for them?  Janice Jablonski
Dear Janice:  Yeah, I know what you mean, it took me a long time to figure out what was right or wrong for me, the world is such a crazy, overwhelming place, how are we supposed to know what’s true for us? So I acknowledge your concern.  Eventually after much soul seeking, I finally learned after many ups and downs that it’s not the answers you get from others, but the questions you ask yourself that help you grow stronger and know and trust what is really true for you.  From the list of questions below, you’ll be able to notice what I discovered:  There are no right or wrong answers..just yours!.  I hope you find this information helpful.
Good discoveries to you Jan.  Magic Powers

1.      If today were the last day of your life, would you want to do what you are about to do today?
I discovered that you have to live your own life in your own way.  That’s all there is to it.  Each of us has a unique fire in our soul for something that makes us feel alive…our passion, knowing what makes us Tick.  It’s your duty to find and keep it lit.  It works if you can stop caring too much about what everyone else wants for you, and start actually living for yourself.
·         Don’t hide behind other people’s or your culture’s rules and belief systems.
·         Don’t let others tell you what you want, do what work for you.
·         Don’t help others so much that you forget to help yourself first.
·         Design and experience YOUR own precious life.

The life you create from doing something that moves you is far better than the life you get from sitting around wishing you were doing it, even if it’s only ten minutes here and there.  Commit and trust yourself, you’re all you have!

2.      If you had a friend who spoke to you in the same way that you sometimes speak to yourself, how long would you allow this person to be your friend?
Remember, the way you treat yourself sets the standards for others to treat you.  Stop discrediting yourself for everything you aren’t, and start giving yourself credit for everything you ARE.  We have to learn to be our own best friends, because sometimes we fall too easily into the trap of being our own worst enemies.
So when you’re hanging out by yourself, watch how you talk to yourself.  Watch your thoughts.  Keep in mind that it is only ever your own thoughts that can hurt you..  It’s how we choose to think about it all.  You know this is true.  You think 60,000 thoughts a day.  Don’t waste fifty nine thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine of them on any limited, negative thinking.
3.      What are you holding on to that you need to let go of?
As you slowly grow, you will discover more about who you are and what you want, and then decide to make changes you need to make.  Realize that the lifestyle and belief systems and what’s right or wrong, in your life you’ve been living no longer fits.  The people you’ve known forever no longer see things the way you do.  Understand that some things simply are NOT meant to be.  Come up with your own answers of what is true for you.  Everything around you is impermanent – your body, your possessions, your relationships, etc.  You have NO control over every little thing that happens to you, but you do have control over how you think, your own truths, and how you decide to internalize it.  This sure made life a lot easier for me, for sure.
In closure, my advice would be:
·         Don’t sweat the small stuff.
·         Live Simply.
·         Love generously.
·         Speak truthfully.
·         Work diligently.
·         Get in touch with your judgmental beliefs and what doesn’t work for you anymore and find your own truth.
·         Then let go, and let what’s meant to BE.

Magic Morsel:  You are not your thoughts…choose the ones you want that work for you.
