6 October 2013, at approx. 5:10 pm, a subject called the Sonora
Police Department and reported that Johnny Mobley, 20 of Sonora, was
inside the Sonora Wal-Mart. The Sonora Police Department had been
looking for Mobley, as he had an active “no bail” felony warrant for his
arrest, for possession of drugs, since April of this year.
As officers arrived at Wal-Mart, Mobley took off running through
the store. It was later learned that someone had tipped Mobley off that
officers were arriving at the store. Mobley ran through the garden
center door and officers started chasing him. Mobley ran around a
retaining wall, but when he observed another officer approaching, he
jumped over the retaining wall he had just run around.
As another officer started giving chase, an employee from
Wal-Mart observed what was occurring and attempted to block Mobley’s
path to assist the officer. This forced Mobley to change directions once
again. Mobley then cut around some pallets and attempted to double
back, but the same employee partially blocked Mobley’s path again, which
slowed Mobley a second time.
Mobley then attempted to turn and look at the pursuing officer
as he attempted to jump over a planter box. However, Mobley didn’t jump
high enough and he tripped over the planter box and fell to the
pavement. Mobley then attempted to get up, but an officer was able to
take Mobley into custody. Mobley was in the possession of 12.1 grams of
heroin, with an approximately street value of $1,200. He was also in the
possession of 44 grams of marijuana.
Mobley was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked
on two outstanding warrants for his arrest; and for felony possession of
narcotics and misdemeanor obstruction of an officer.
