Nine Amador, Calaveras, and Tuolumne County Artists Chosen
to Show in KVIE Art Auction

CA, August 20, 2013 – Celebrating
KVIE Public Television’s thirty-two years of creating an accessible venue to
bring art into the homes of Northern Californians, the 2013 KVIE Art Auction
will showcase over 250 works of art by emerging, well-known, and world-renown
Northern California artists. KVIE’s art curator, D Neath, today announced that nine
artists from Amador, Calaveras, and Tuolumne counties who submitted their art
to the annual juried competition were chosen to be included in KVIE’s Art
Auction collection. Six of the selected artists from this region also received
juror awards in their artistic categories.
The nine pieces accepted into the
auction are: Laurie Gregory Williams’ “High Desert Princess” (juror award
winner, sculpture category; Sutter Creek; airs 9/22 approx. 4pm); John R.
Jurisich’s “Market Square” (juror award winner, contemporary classics category;
Pine Grove; airs 9/20 approx. 9pm); Michiyo Watanabe’s “Hummingbird” (juror
award winner, photography category; Jackson; airs 9/22 approx. 12pm); Ann Nancy
Macomber’s “Santa Cruz Yucca” (juror award winner, still life category; Arnold;
airs 9/21 approx. 6pm); Susie Hoffman’s “Copper Valley Patina” (Copperopolis;
airs 9/21 approx. 8pm); Donald Hukari’s “Sacramento Blocks” (juror award
winner, photography; Sonora; airs 9/21 approx. 6pm); Cary Bauer McGrew’s
“Looking Up” (Columbia; airs 9/21 approx. 6pm); Marta Magistrali’s “As Easy As
Riding a Bike” (juror award winner, sculpture category; Jamestown; airs 9/21
approx. 6pm); and Allison Blansit’s “Secluded” (Sonora; airs 9/21 approx. 6pm).
In addition to the juried art, the
auction will also include works by master artists Eric Dahlin, Gary Pruner,
Gregory Kondos, Kurt Fishback, Larry Welden, Mel Ramos, Sandy Delehanty, and
Victoria Brooks.
Each artist’s work will be showcased
in a live 3-day auction broadcast on KVIE (ch. 6, check local listings) that
starts Friday, September 20 from 8pm to 11pm and continues Saturday, September
21 and Sunday, September 22 from noon to 10pm.
"This year's winning artworks
were chosen through an extensive, in-person jury process from almost 600 total
entries,” said Neath. “The jurors did a beautiful job narrowing the collection
and selecting the final award-winning works of art. When viewers tune-in, they
will agree the art is an outstanding reflection of the talent in our region.”
KVIE will hold a Preview Gala to
announce and honor the first place winners, in six categories, and the Best of
Show winner. At the event, guests can mingle with artists, and try local wines
and brews, hors d’oeuvres and chocolate desserts from 20 of our region’s finest
wineries and restaurants. Cost is $50 for the Preview Gala, which will be held
from 5:30pm to 8:30pm Monday, September 16, at KVIE Studios in Sacramento.
