Weather alert - spring weather system coming in

..ANOTHER COOL SPRING WEATHER SYSTEM WILL AFFECT THE REGION TODAY THROUGH TUESDAY.
IMPACTS:
* GUSTY WINDS COULD CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES DUE TO BLOWING SNOW THROUGH THE HIGHER ELEVATION PASSES OF THE NORTHERN SIERRA NEVADA EVEN THOUGH FAIRLY LIGHT SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED.
* SLICK ROADWAYS COULD LEAD TO INCREASED TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS DOWN TO AROUND 3500 FEET.
* SCATTERED DOWNED LIMBS/TREES AND LOCAL POWER OUTAGES TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY WITH NORTH TO NORTHEAST WINDS.


A SURFACE BOUNDARY PRESENTLY ACROSS NORTHERN CALIFORNIA WILL SHIFT SOUTH TODAY BEFORE SHIFTING EAST INTO THE GREAT BASIN TONIGHT. A VARIETY OF WEATHER IMPACTS ARE EXPECTED AS THE WEATHER SYSTEM MOVES THROUGH THE REGION INCLUDING AN INCREASING CHANCE OF SHOWERS ACROSS MAINLY THE HIGHER TERRAIN TODAY AND TONIGHT...BREEZY WINDS TODAY AND STRONGER NORTHERLY WINDS DEVELOPING TUESDAY AND BRINGING MUCH COOLER TEMPERATURES. NORTHERLY WINDS MAY DEVELOP AGAIN WEDNESDAY.
SCATTERED SHOWERS WILL DEVELOP ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS TODAY. A FEW SHOWERS WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE IN THE NORTH VALLEY. ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL MAY BECOME AN ISSUE ACROSS THE NORTHERN SIERRA PASSES TODAY AND TONIGHT WITH TRACE SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS AROUND 3500 FEET AND UP TO AN INCH AROUND 4000 TO 4500 FEET. SEVERAL INCHES OF SNOW MAY ACCUMULATE ALONG THE NORTHERN SIERRA CREST WITH LOCALLY HIGHER ACCUMULATIONS. WESTERLY WINDS OF AROUND 40 TO 50 MPH OVER THE SIERRA CREST WILL LIKELY GENERATE BLOWING SNOW. MOTORISTS PLANNING TRAVEL OVER THE PASSES MONDAY SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS.
GUSTY NORTH WINDS WILL DEVELOP IN THE WAKE OF THIS SYSTEM ACROSS THE INTERIOR OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA ON TUESDAY. NORTH WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO AROUND 40 MPH WILL BE POSSIBLE.
