On July 1, 2011 the raffle tickets for the VFW Patriotic Quilt were shaken, stirred, and everything in between prior to Larry Phillips, Vietnam Veteran and co-owner of the Sports Pub, calmly reaching his hand in the fish bowl and pulling out the winning ticket.
The winner was Estella Berry from Copperopolis.
Estella was beyond excited saying she never thought she would win. She remembers buying the ticket at the Lions Club car show this summer but had long since lost hope that she would be the winner.
The quilt was presented to Estella at the Copperopolis Branch Library on July 8, 2011. The presenters were Mel Ogg (WWII), Ralph Murphy (Vietnam), Al Gilbert (Vietnam), and Michael McDaniel (Vietnam). Estella hugged each veteran at least once and thanked them for their service.
The quilt was made by the Lake Tulloch Quilters and donated to the Committee to form a Copperopolis VFW to help the group raise funding for their organization.
