Press Release from Assemblymember 25th District Kristin Olsen

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Kristin Olsen, R-Modesto, today applauded Tour of California organizers for routing Stage 3 of the race through the city of Oakdale. Route details for the first three stages of the 2011 Amgen Tour of California were announced this morning through a series of videos on the Tour’s website, amgentourofcalifornia.com.

“Our region is very excited to have the premier cyclists from all over the world riding through our backyard this summer,” said Olsen.  "This is an incredible opportunity to showcase Modesto and Oakdale, on an international stage."

On January 5, 2011, Olsen sent a letter to the Tour of California encouraging the race planners to route the upcoming race through the Sierra Nevada foothills, specifically through the cities of Angels Camp, Sonora and Oakdale.

“The Tour of California is important not only for our local economy, but also to showcase the Sierra Nevada region as a great destination for outdoor enthusiasts.  I plan to stay in contact with race organizers to see if we can add more foothill cities to the Tour in 2012,” said Olsen.

Stage 3 of the upcoming 2011 Tour of California, which is scheduled to be held this summer, will take the world class cyclists from Auburn to Modesto.  As a Councilmember, Olsen was instrumental in bringing the Amgen Tour of California to Modesto in 2008.

Assemblymember Kristin Olsen, R-Modesto, is Vice-Chair of the Assembly Committee on Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism and Internet Media.  She represents the 25th Assembly District in the California Legislature, which includes the communities of Angels Camp, Chowchilla, Hughson, Mammoth Lakes, Mariposa, Modesto, Oakdale, Oakhurst, Riverbank, Sonora, and Waterford.
