Marines Begin Competing for a spot in the National Wounded Warrior Games coming in May 2011

In May of 2010 the first ever Wounded Warriors Games commenced in Colorado Springs Colorado with approximately 200 wounded service members and veterans competing. The events include track and field, swimming, shooting and archery, triathalons, and wheelchair basketball. The competition is open to servicemembers and veterans with bodily injuries as well as post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury.

The 2011 games coming in May had the USMC hosting a Marine Corps trial competition that began February 21, 2011 at Camp Pendelton to pick the best of the best to send to the Warrior Games. Competitors from the British Royal Marines and the Dutch Marines competed alongside US Marines.

Though the games were originally set up as a pre requisite of sorts for the US paralympic team, it has morphed into something stronger, a battlefield where no one gets hurt..."we only come back stronger."
