What began in 1995 with a few friends that loved to quilt or simply loved fabric has now become a mainstay in the quilting arena of the Motherlode.
Meeting only twice a month this group has workshops, visiting teachers, lots of fun, and lots of fabric. Open to all who love the art of quilting, even if you have admired it from afar and wish to learn, this group of ladies welcomes you with open arms.
In the past they have taken under their wings multiple youth groups, sharing with them the finer aspects of needle, thread and fabric and the beauty that can be created from a combination of those three elements.
Each year they work together to create a work of art to be auctioned off at the annual Homecoming Celebration, the proceeds going to benefit charities such as Friends of the Library, Women's Crisis Center, Copperopolis Community Center, and more. This years quilt has a "mans" theme to it. Full of wilderness fabrics combined with rich reds and deep golds, it will definately make the winning gentleman a happy camper. This wilderness quilt will soon be unveiled, and raffle tickets will be made available at various locations. (This site will keep you posted on when and where.)
If you would like to become a part of this group they meet the first and third Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 8:30 at Blackcreek Park. Typically the first Tuesday is a meeting, the third Tuesday is a workshop where you can bring your project. "Some people bring their knitting, just to come sit with friends." Said Melinda Stanley, one of the charter members, who also happens to have a long arm quilting machine and will machine quilt your finished quilt tops for you at a reasonable cost. Stop by the group to find out more.
