Mark Twain Medical Center Plans Summer Health and Safety Fair

SAN ANDREAS, CA – June 11, 2014- Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) will be holding its 4th Annual Summer Health Fair on Saturday, June 21st, from 8am to Noon at the Terrace Shopping Center in Valley Springs.

Over twenty community health related service groups will participate in this community-wide event. A wealth of information will be available on topics such as senior health services, nutrition, fitness and diabetes. There will also be a variety of free health screenings – body fat, physical fitness levels, stress levels, and metabolic screenings. This year we have partnered with the state and local EMS, Fire and Law Enforcement to provide safety information/demonstrations as well. Including car seat safety checks and bike safety.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) from the San Andreas office will have specially trained Child Safety Seat Technicians onsite to inspect and teach drivers how to properly install child safety seats.
“Your child’s life depends on that car seat, that’s why it is important to make sure it is properly installed.” stated CHP Officer Rebecca Myers.

On Saturday along with this free service the CHP will also be checking bicycles to make sure they are properly equipped and fit the child. CHP Officers will inspect bicycle helmets for proper fit and will be replacing helmets that do not fit properly or have outworn their usefulness. There will also be a bicycle course for testing your child’s skills and knowledge.

The low cost health screening and services include the five-panel blood analysis, including a chemistry panel, thyroid, complete blood count, lipid panel, iron for women, PSA for men, and vitamin D deficiencies ($45), and Bone Density Screenings ($10).

“Our Mission is to improve the health of our greater community by providing quality health care services, exceeding the expectations of those we serve,” said Craig Marks, Hospital President. “Holding our Health Fairs in various locations is both a part of our Mission and something to which we look forward. Our ability to provide vital low cost and free health services to our community is a privilege, along with partnering with community groups to sponsor fun run/walks. Not only do these raise activities funds for a good cause, they also provide opportunities for friends and family to enjoy exercising together.”
