CCWD Board opposes Wild & Scenic, unless amended
At a special board meeting Thursday June 19, 2014, the Calaveras County Water
District Board of Directors voted unanimously to continue its opposition to Senate
Bill 1199, unless the bill is amended. The board voted to support a list of proposed
amendments that, if incorporated into the bill, would prompt the CCWD board to
reconsider its position on the bill.
SB 1199, authored by California State Senator Loni Hancock, proposes a state
Wild and Scenic designation for about 37 miles of the Mokelumne River. The
CCWD Board of Directors believes the bill, as drafted, could prohibit water
resource development projects that would benefit Calaveras County and other
partnering agencies.
At Thursday’s meeting, the board also authorized Director Don Stump to act on its
behalf at an Upper Mokelumne River Watershed Authority meeting held Friday
June 20, 2014. The UMRA board voted 6-1-1 to oppose SB1199, unless amended
