Community Garden update

Lots of very good news this morning!

The 80' row of tomatoes planted about 2 weeks ago are doing well and show good color in their leaves.  We're going to hammer in a few tall, metal bars that will allow us to string wire to support all the cages as the plants grow about 3-4' tall.   That way the plants remain upright and the fruit will be easier to harvest.

The 50' row, planted a month earlier, is also doing well and will receive poles to maintain their cages as well.

Thursday, Jim Wilson dropped off his 'Special Blend' of compost, pond bottom sludge and Diestel Turkey compost.  It is dry, aged and ready to be used!

Our last spray of vinegar and Avenger (citric acid) was Successul!!  We've beaten back the Morning Glory in the area where the Raised Beds are being moved. While the weed will return and require several more sprays - we've shown the process can and will work.

We have one box moved and one left to move (both are currently empty of dirt).   We can now lay the metal, fill the boxes, set the irrigation lines and transplant the starts.

We know what we have the dirt to fill the boxes - what about the plants?

We've obtained the LAST 2 dozen sweet peppers available in our area.  They will be delivered by Richard on Saturday morning.

Locally, it's Pantry Distribution on Thursday so it's time to finish pulling out the onions.   Those we have ready need to go to the Copper Food pantry for distribution this week, and the balance into storage so they can be distributed through the summer months.

The strawberries seem to be making a come-back, as are the beans.   Come help they produce their marvelous crops with a little hand weeding.

The herb garden is also doing well - we've bee balm, oregano, and several other herbs and flowers.  They are competing with weeds for water.  Let's help them out with a bit of weeding there are well.

Obviously, we'll not do all tasks Saturday morning.   All are encouraged to stop by the garden when it is convenient for you.  You 'Nature' call when you've visiting the garden,  we have a clean and very well-maintained facility, courtesy of Kevin and Leslie Gause of Foothill Portables.  We very much appreciate this donation!

Hope to see you this Saturday morning or during the next week.   Cheers!
