Veteran Medical Van Visits Copperopolis

On Friday June 10, 2011 the Veteran Affairs Palo Alto  Health Care System Van visited Copperopolis extending their veteran outreach to our rural community.

The VA Rural medical van reaches out to those in areas geographically challenging for those seeking VA clinic services. Within the van there exists a private space for medical consultation. In the exam area the Mobile Medical Team doctor was able to see patients, make referrals to appropriate facilities, prescribe medications and arrange for them to be delivered to the veteran's home. They provided health education and screened for conditions like post-traumatic-stress-disorder.

On site was Dr. Emily Lawrence who was on hand to discuss any psychological issues a veteran may have.
Area 12 Agency on Aging was also present to distribute informational materials, as was the Calaveras County Veterans Affairs representative to aid in the dissemination of information and literature.

A huge thank you to the volunteers that made this possible, the Copper VFW formation representatives Al Gibert, Charity Maness and Jerry Kneifen, and to Richard French DDS for his unending support of veterans and the use of his facilities for the duration of the medical van visit to Copperopolis.
