Sonora Regional Medical Center Welcomes New Neurologist and Sleep Medicine Specialist




November 12, 2014 (Sonora, CA) — Sonora Regional Medical Center welcomes fellowship-trained neurologist and sleep medicine specialist Anahid Hekmat, MD. Dr. Hekmat earned her medical degree at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. She completed a medical internship at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, neurology residency and clinical neurophysiology fellowship at Rush University Medical Center, and sleep medicine fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center. 


Sonora Regional Cancer Center Welcomes New Hematologist-Oncologist




November 12, 2014 (Sonora, CA) — Sonora Regional Cancer Center welcomes Roozbeh Mohajer, MD, a hematologist-oncologist and hospice and palliative medicine specialist who has joined Mussa Banisadre, MD, and Abdol Mojab, MD, at the Center. Dr. Mohajer will provide care for patients fulltime in Sonora. He will also serve as the medical director of Oncology Services and help with the development of the new Cancer Center soon to be constructed at the corner of Greenley Road and Mono Way.

Wound Care Center Raises Awareness of Diabetic Foot Ulcers



October 17, 2014 (Sonora, CA) — The Center for Hyperbaric Wound Care at Sonora Regional Medical Center is participating in the Healogics National Diabetes Campaign from October 27 to October 31. The Center is a member of Healogics’ network of nearly 600 wound care clinics, offering advanced therapies to patients suffering from chronic wounds like diabetic foot ulcers. Healogics program directors across the nation are dedicating the entire week to providing education to help physicians and their staffs identify diabetic patients with or at risk of developing ulcers of the lower extremity.

Sonora Regional Medical Center Holds HazMat for Health Care Class for Staff




October 20, 2014 (Sonora, CA) — Sonora Regional Medical Center is providing a two-day class for staff to receive training for hazardous materials (HazMat) response in a health care setting. In addition to practicing donning and doffing personal protective equipment (PPE), class participants will learn how to decontaminate patients exposed to chemical and biological spills, identify and isolate contaminated patients and set up a decontamination shower.

The Medical Center is purchasing additional PPE and staff members from various departments at the Medical Center will be participating in the class which will be held October 21 and 22 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This training, which has been planned for a few months, will focus on hazardous chemicals and biological spills. Some of the education gained will be useful in training for Ebola.

Hospice of the Sierra Offers Training for New Volunteers



September 30, 2014 (Sonora, CA) — Sonora Regional Medical Center’s Hospice of the Sierra is offering training for anyone interested in becoming a hospice volunteer.  The orientation and training session will occur on October 23, 2014 from 1 to 5pm in Sonora.  Volunteers will learn how to provide support and respite care for patients and families.  There are volunteer opportunities to support people in their grief journey, or to provide clerical support in the office.

Sonora Regional Medical Center Welcomes New Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist





August 19, 2014 (Sonora, CA) — Sonora Regional Medical Center welcomes Christopher Jones, MD, an Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) specialist who has joined Donovan Teel, MD; Christopher Mills, MD; and Matthew Maynard, DO at Sierra OB/GYN.

Dr. Jones attended Modesto Junior College before earning a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from University of California, Santa Cruz. He went on to earn a Medical Degree and complete his residency in Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Jones earned several honors and awards throughout his education including the Outstanding Resident Award from the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and the James R. Green Memorial Award for excellence in caring for the underserved.

Internal Medicine Specialist, Reiker Schultz, MD, Now Accepting Patients




Sonora Regional Medical Center welcomes Reiker Schultz, MD, who has begun seeing patients at Hillside Internal Medicine. Dr. Schultz comes from Cincinnati, Ohio, where he completed an internal medicine residency at The Jewish Hospital.

Before pursuing a career in medicine, Dr. Schultz worked for several years in auto design, spending his working life at a desk with little social interaction. He decided he would rather be of service to people and medicine was a natural choice.

Affiliated Physician Clinics Joint Anthem Blue Cross Network for Covered California Members




July 25, 2014 (Sonora, CA) — Adventist Health and Sonora Regional Medical Center, as well as its affiliated physician clinics, have reached a new multi-year agreement with Anthem Blue Cross to serve Anthem’s individual members who purchased their plans through Covered California.

With the new agreement, all affiliated physician clinics of Sonora Regional Medical Center can accept Anthem Blue Cross Individual Pathway PPO sold via Covered California. This includes the following physician offices:

June 11 Golf Tournament at Saddle Creek Benefits Free Mobile Clinic




(Sonora, CA) – Sonora Regional Medical Center’s 18th Annual Golf Classic will be held on Wednesday, June 11 at Saddle Creek Resort in Copperopolis.  All proceeds from the tournament go toward funding Sonora Regional Medical Center’s Project HOPE, a free mobile health clinic serving people in the community who typically do not have health insurance.  The clinic is available twice a week at the Crossroads Shopping Center in Sonora and once a month at Interfaith.

Sonora Regional Medical Center - Wound Care Center Recognized for Excellence in Wound Healing




March 20, 2014 (Sonora, CA) — Physicians and staff at the Center for Wound Care at Sonora Regional Medical Center gathered Tuesday, March 18, to celebrate receiving the Robert A. Warriner III, M.D., Center of Excellence award. The Center has exceeded Healogics, Inc., Center of Distinction quality standards for three consecutive years. In 2013, the Center achieved a healing rate of 92 percent in 30 median days. In addition, 92 percent of patients rated their overall experience at the Center as “excellent.”

The Center was awarded this prestigious honor by Healogics, Inc., the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services. The award is named for Dr. Robert A. Warriner III, a pioneer in wound care and the former Chief Medical Officer for Healogics.

5,234 Miles to Celebrate Heart Health Month



Sonora Regional Medical Center employees participated in a Walk-A-Mile contest during the month of February to celebrate American Heart Health Month and walked a total of 5,234.2 miles – enough miles to walk from Sonora to the middle of South America!

Employees formed teams for a total of 174 employees on 44 teams. The average team walked 118 miles during the month of February and the winning team walked 260 miles. The winners are Michelle Gray, Nanette Anderson, Randy Manford and Cindy Haines who all work at the Medical Center’s Job Care clinic.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Through this friendly competition among employees, practitioners and volunteers, the Medical Center has encouraged healthy lifestyles and would like to remind the community to eat well, quit smoking and exercise regularly to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and death from heart disease and stroke.
