Calaveras County Science Fair

Calaveras County students in grades four through twelve, who are recommended by their school, or who have won at their school’s Science Fair, will be participating in the 29th Annual Countywide Science Fair to be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014, and will be held in the Calaveras River Academy/Mountain Oaks School gymnasium at 150 Old Oak Road, San Andreas.

Judging of projects begins at 9:00 a.m. and includes an interview with the student(s) by a team of judges. Awards will be presented at the Awards Ceremony in the afternoon at approximately 2:30 pm.
Judging standards are based on creativity, scientific thought, skill, clarity, and the student’s interview. Awards will be presented to the first, second and third place winners at each grade level with a grand prize being awarded to the most outstanding project.

Future Scientists will head to County Science Fair

At the February 26, 2014 Copperopolis Elementary Science Fair five childrens' projects were chosen to represent Copper school at the county science fair.

Those five 5th graders will be heading to the county science fair next month with their winning science experiments.

1st place Braxton Berryman with Citrus Acidity
2nd place TristanArbulich with Guinea Pig Maze - sight, smell, attractions
3rd place Hailee Gunter with bird attractions
Honorable mentions were given to Hannah Casillas and Constance Gibson.

Copper School 6th grader Duncan Welch Competing at State Science Fair

Today begins the State Science fair in Southern California and Copperopolis has a representative competing from Copper School...our own Duncan Welch!

Duncan competed at school level, then county level placing second in the sixth grade division earning the right to compete at state level!

Copper Scientists Bring Home the Gold - One Headed to State Science Fair

On March 23, 2013 three Copperopolis Elementary students participated in the County Science Fair and placed!

For fifth grade:
1st place Cooper Morlan with 'Wake Up and Smell the Acid' which brand of coffee is the most acidic.
3rd place McKenzie Blair with 'Grow so Mow' affects of light in front of the home and in the back of the home on plant growth.

And for sixth grade - who will go on to compete at the State level:

Copper Scientists heading to County Science Fair

Three Copperopolis Elementary 5th graders will be heading to the County wide science fair this weekend with their winning science projects.

First place went to McKenzie Blair for "Which plant will grow faster? One in the front yard or one in the backyard?" Using tomatoe plants McKenzie and her parents planted a plant in the front and in the back. McKenzie hypothesized that the one in the back would grow faster because it had more sunshine and she was correct.

McKenzie's favorite subject in school is science and her hobbies are gymnastics and rock collecting. She loves working in the yard with her parents.
