Kindness spreads thru the community via grocery bags

If you shop at IGA this week you may be the recipient of one of the many beautifully decorated paper bags, decorated by the children of Copperopolis Elementary.

As part of Kindness week children K- through 5th grade decorated Payless IGA grocery bags with sayings of kindness and pictures depicting happy thoughts adding a new avenue of spreading kindness through the community.

Kindness Week begins

CALAVERAS COUNTY – January 21, 2014 – What once started as “Good Neighbor Day” in Angels Camp in 1994, 20 years later has burgeoned into a county-wide Kindness Week to take place Feb. 9-15, 2014.

This good-will event is the brainchild of Jim and Judy Bergantz of Angels Camp. In those early years as owners of Bergantz Nursery, Jim and his family, with the help of their suppliers, gave out thousands of roses - a dozen to each person. Each recipient was instructed to keep one rose and give the other 11 out to those who did a good deed.

In 1995 the Angels Camp City Council officially claimed Feb. 17 as “Kindness Day.”  On Jan.28, 2014 the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors  is expected to unanimously proclaim the second week of February as “Kindness Week,” as well as re confirming  Calaveras County to be a “Kindness Zone.”

Passing on Ripples of Kindness Project

2014 THEME:  Create a ripple of kindness, by doing one random act of kindness every day !

A small group of local residents are working together to encourage and promote random acts of kindness throughout  Calaveras county.  In 1995, the Angels Camp City Council passed a proclamation that Angels Camp is a Kindness Zone.  Once again we are asking the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors to pass a county-wide Kindness Zone proclamation as well.   (both the city and county have proclaimed kindness zones)

Calaveras County Kindness Week 2-13 through 2-19-2012

12,000 kindness light blue ribbons with pins, miles of light blue ribbon, and Kindness Zone signs will be distributed throughout Calaveras County, in schools, businesses and beyond starting Feb. 13.   22 Kindness Kits will be distributed to the Calaveras schools that include pass it on ribbons and blue ribbon to display, Distribution will be accomplished through voluntary “Kindness Crusaders”  in each school.

Hero Essay Contest: Mark Twain Elementary School will present Hero Essays at the Angels Camp City Council meeting in the Bret Harte High School multipurpose room (behind the Bret Harte Theater) Tuesday, Feb. 21 starting at 6 p.m. Master of Ceremonies is Jill Bergantz.
