Evolving from the ancient Celtic holiday of Samhain, modern Halloween has become less about literal ghosts and ghouls and more about costumes and candy. The Celts used the day to mark the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, and also believed that this transition between the seasons was a bridge to the world of the dead.  Over the millennia the holiday transitioned from a somber pagan ritual to a day of merriment, costumes, parades and sweet treats for children and adults.

It is thought to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints and martyrs; the holiday, All Saints’ Day, incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows’ Eve and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a secular, community-based event characterized by child-friendly activities such as trick-or-treating. In a number of countries around the world, as the days grow shorter and the nights get colder, people continue to usher in the winter season with gatherings, costumes and sweet treats.

Halloween Fun coming to Lake Tulloch Plaza

Hello Copperopolis! 

Well it is that Halloween and Harvest time of the year and this year PSID, Incorporated has put together a fun festival for all ages!  On Saturday October 29th from 12 to 5pm at the Lake Tulloch Plaza IGA shopping center THE KIDS ZONE will be home to Pony rides provided by B&B Pony Parties out from Fremont, Ca. and a kids Jumpy Castle will be provided sponsored by Bark n' Bubbles. Other fun and games will include Costume Contests for kids, adults and their pets.  There will be dunking for apples, a best "horror film scream" contest, a pumpkin carving contest, and much more! Dress-up yourself, your children and your pets to take part of the event! Carving entrants may bring pre-carved pumpkins or carve a pumpkin on site to enter. Local merchants, vendors as well as The San Andreas Humane Society will be taking part to provide pet adoption information and FREE VOUCHERS for vaccinations and spay/neuter to pet owners. WE ARE STILL CURRENTLY SEEKING A VETERINARY Dr. to provide vaccinations and general check-up services. This Event is for all ages and no entrance fees required other than having some fun!!!
