Update on Sheriff Deputy Little John crash - Deputy "okay"

At 6:47 4-14-13 a call came out of a two vehicle collision on Little John Road and Bow Drive in Copperopolis. Upon arriving at the scene the call was updated to officer involved in collision.

By 7:14 pm witnesses reported that a car had pulled out of Bow Drive while the Deputy was responding "code3" lights and sirens, to a call past the end of Little John Road. The Deputy swerved to miss the car and consequently flipped his car and landed in the nearby field. No confirmation from either the Fire Department of the Sheriff department has been received about the casue of the collision.

At 8:29 am 4-15-13 Sheriff Dept Sgt Hewitt reported that the Deputy involved is "okay" yet no further comment could be made due to the pending investigation.

Witnesses state that a Sheriff Deputy responding to a call on Little John rolling "code 3" lights and sirens swerved to miss a car that pulled in front of him and crashed into the nearby field.
The deputy is being transported via ambulance.

Captain Cantrell, incident commander, had no comment.
Highway patrol is en route, Little John remains closed to through traffic at this point. Please use alternate routes.

7:30 Deputies on scene requesting permission to access Sheriff vehicle to get equipment out of vehicle. Damage to the frame is making access to the vehicle difficult.
