Update on Counterfeit Money in Copperopolis

According Sheriff PIO Chris Hewitt, Copperopolis was the only town within Calaveras County to recieve counterfeit money.

It was reported that Lake Tulloch Resort received $660.00 in counterfeit $20.00 dollar bills. According to the police report the money from the Resort was reported on Monday June 25, 2012 two days after the BUMP V event. Hewitt stated that the report said in part, that the money looked to be printed on fake paper, washed, and had an odd green tint.

Counterfeit $20 dollar bills circulating in Copper

According the Calaveras County Sheriff Department a small collection of counterfeit $20 dollar bills have been received by multiple businesses in Copperopolis. A report has been taken, the money has been collected and subsequently turned over to investigations.

At this time there has not been a press release issued regarding what businesses should be looking for to identify the counterfeit money. However, one business that received the money stated that the watermark of President Jackson located on the front of the bill near the upper right hand corner seemed to be missing.

Angels Camp PD asks assisstance in identifying suspect

Scott’s Yogurt Factory located at 51 N. Main St, Angels Camp reported receiving a counterfeit $100 bill on 1/31/12 at 2:06 pm.Attached are surveillance photos of the suspect. Anyone with information regarding the identity of the male subject in the surveillance photos is asked to contact the Angels Camp Police Department at (209) 736-2567. Thank you.
