Shannon Braziel finds a a perfect fit as Copper Library Branch assistant
Growing up as the daughter of a migrant farm worker mother who received her only education at picking ranches and a laborer father, Shannon Braziel's first experience with books was at the local library and with the traveling book mobile. "We had no books in our house, none. My favorite day of the week was when the book mobile would come."

Copper Library re-opens with regular hours TODAY!!!! 9-15-14
Starting Monday September 15th a regular
schedule of hours will resume at the Copperopolis Library. Our new
Branch Library Assistant Shannon Braziel will be at the library Monday and Thursday
11 to 5, and Wednesdays 1 to 7. When our dedicated volunteers Sandy
and Claudia are available, we’ll have bonus hours on Tuesdays 12 to 3
and Wednesdays 10 to 1.

The County of Calaveras is seeking a Branch Library Assistant
for its Copperopolis Branch.
Branch Library Assistant is expected to perform paraprofessional library work and general clerical duties. A knowledge of general library functions, library terminology and common office methodologies is required.
Education/Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of general clerical experience. A demonstrated understanding of library functions is required. Completion of thirty (30) semester units of college course work may be substituted for up to 3 months of the required clerical experience.
Schedule: Three (3) six (6) hour days per week. Days of the week will be determined after discussion with top candidate. This position is part-time (18 hours per week) and not eligible for benefits.
Salary: $12.18 per hour. Copper Library now Open by, Kristina Zimmerman
The Copperopolis Branch library is now open!
Monday through Thursday it is open from 12-5:30.
Friday through Sunday is
closed.
It is full of books, movies, computers, free wifi, etc!
Our library

Copper Library moves to new home
On Wednesday February 19, 2014, the Copperopolis Branch library moved to its newest location in Lake Tulloch plaza.
No stranger to moving, this is the fourth move during the library's 14 year existence, the move came off without a hitch.
Over 130 boxes of books, 8 compuetrs and desks, as well as library furniture and shelving were moved in record time with the help of members of the Lake Tulloch Lions, VFW Post 12118, as well as Julie Eggert, Belva Bristol, Pam Vaughn, Pam ad Fred Smith, and Kathleen Kunzs.

How to return library books to our closed library
Since the Copperopolis Branch library will be closed until March, opening in its new location in Lake Tulloch Plaza, many of you may not know what to do with you books and dvds that you have checked out.
According to Maurie Hoekstra, county head librarian, "Items
can be returned 24/7 to the book drop in front of the library. When
books are checked in from the book drop they are noted as returned the
last open date for the library. We
also set the month of February as closed days for Copper in our
circulation system so that no items should be due and accruing fines
during this period."

Copper library readies to close for a month
According to Valerie from the Copper Library "many folks have stopped by to offer a hand" with the moving of the library. When Valerie submits dates and times
for "boxing, moving, unboxing and shelving" she will notify the Gazette so it can be posted.
In the meantime there are free paperbacks for the taking.
Please hold off on book donations as dates for book donations will be posted, too.

Copper Library closure due to moving
The Copper Library is once again moving.
Due to the 5-0 vote in favor of keeping the Copper library operating and moving to a more affordable location the library will close its door on Friday January 30 and remained closed until March when they will reopen in their new location by Payless IGA.
The date for reopen has not yet been established.

Copper library over budget but doors will open in new location with BOS vote in favor 5-0
At the 1-28-14 Board of Supervisors meeting the Copperopolis Library was once again the center
of discussion. With a final vote of 5-0 to approve rent in a new location, Callaway accepting the motion and Spellman seconding the motion.
The cause for open discussion was the 2013/14 county budget for the Copperopolis library which sits at $14,400 per year. The current rental agreement with the new owners is a month to month for $1,600.00 per month, $400.00 per month over budget.
Peter Racz of Valley Springs and Joe Kelly spoke during public comment at the BOS meeting questioning the validity of such an expense.
Racz introduced himself as a "rude, crude, obnoxious person" and asked "is this the best way under the circumstances that we have " to operate a library. "The County and the schools need to make libraries more effective." Whereas Kelly just wanted to make sure there existed an "exit strategy in case the county could not fund the expense."
Zachariah Collum, assistant CAO, addressed their concerns explaining the caveat for a 30 day notice to terminate lease in the contract. Collum also informed the BOS and the audience of his extensive search of available locations for the library.
Debbie Ponte announced that the current landlords did approach the Board "with a last minute bid" regarding a possible rent reduction for the current facility. Ponte requested their presence at the 1-28-14 meeting so that it could be discussed. At the time of meeting Ponte received a text stating they would not be able to attend.
