N O T I C E
On Friday, May 9, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. there will be a Public Hearing in the Office of the Calaveras County Superintendent of Schools, 185 South Main Street, Angels Camp, CA to present the following:
1. Initial proposal for the 2013-2014 school year from the Calaveras County Office of Education to CSEA Chapter #840 Special Education Paraeducators.
2. Initial proposal for the 2014-2015 school year from the Calaveras County Office of Education to CCCC (Certificated Colleagues of Calaveras County).
The Calaveras County Superintendent of Schools will approve the above-mentioned initial proposals at the Calaveras County Office of Education, 185 South Main Street, Angels Camp.

THE CALIFORNIA ACADEMIC DECATHLON ANNOUNCES UPCOMING COMPETITION

On February 2, 2013, at Bret Harte High School in Angels Camp, sixty-nine students from four high schools will compete in the 31st Annual Regional Academic Decathlon Competition. Participating high schools include Bret Harte High School from Angels Camp, Mountain Oaks School from San Andreas, Sonora High School from Sonora, and Summerville High School from Tuolumne.
The Academic Decathlon, the premiere national scholastic competition for high school students, was created to provide opportunities for students to experience the challenges of rigorous team and individual academic competition. Each student competes in ten events which are economics, essay, art, interview, language and literature, math, music, social science, speech, and Written Super Quiz. The top nine students from each school will compete against each other in the Oral Super Quiz. New this year, the Oral Super Quiz topics will be from six different subject areas: art, economics, language and literature, music, science, and social science. The oral relay portion of the Super Quiz is the only part of the actual testing that is open to the public, and it is inevitably one of the most memorable and exciting parts of the Academic Decathlon competition.

CCOE presentation on Prop 30 and Prop 38 "Cuts are the new normal"

The Calaveras County Office of Education presented an informational presentation of Proposition 30 and Proposition 38 (both on the November ballot) - the implications and ramifications of both as well as the far reaching effects of the current budget crisis.

Each school district in Calaveras County was represented and each representative made a small presentation as to their particular districts current funding, budgets and forecasts for the next year or more. Both Vallecito and Mark Twain stated their 3 year budget reflects potential budget cuts based on non-passage of either Proposition and allows for sufficient reserves to continue functionality while Calaveras Unified and Bret Harte expressed budgetary concerns with respect to reserves after the 12/13 fiscal year.

Each district was vocal in their agreement with Bret Harte Superintendent/Principal Michael Chimente's statement, "we try to keep the cuts as far away from the kids" as possible. Each district reiterating their sole purpose "to educate our future."
