Letter to the Editor from the Calaveras Chamber of Commerce

Dear Members and Associates,

As the president of your chamber, I strongly endorse the request of Central Sierra Connect. Please take a moment to read and consider acting on the attachment to better our community.

Sincerely,
Mark Borchin
Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce

This is a call for help, specifically to each and every one of you. We are very serious about correcting erroneous information on the state (CPUC) broadband map. We see these mapping errors as a GREAT IMPEDIMENT to conquering the digital divide here in the Sierras. If these errors remain, we will not be able to attract Internet Service Providers (ISPs) especially the smaller local ones to take on projects to extend service into unserved and underserved areas in our region. Meanwhile, we fall further and further behind the high speed internet curve, which impacts our economic viability for businesses and the tourist trade and our ability to provide our K-16 students with the tools they need to compete with the rest of the world in their education. (OK, that is my elevator speech!)

Now, what we aim to do about it: Your CSC Core Group (Shelly, Darrell and I) are planning to roll out an incentivized campaign for the month of July, 2014 for the whole 5 county region to get our citizens to contact us (so we can report to the CPUC) using this tool that Steering Committee member, Greg Falken created: http://gregfalken.com/mapping.html
