CFPD intern Johnathan Villanueva heads to boot camp

Johnathan Villanueva, a volunteer firefighter and an intern with Copperopolis Fire District has joined the Army National Guard and will be heading off to boot camp the end of January.

During his career as a firefighter Johnathan volunteered with Columbia FD, Murphys FD and CFPD. This past fire season, one of the worst on record, Johnathan began working with CalFire yet continues to volunteer with Copper when times allows.

He is a bit nervous but looking forward to an experience that can "only make me stronger." 

" I wish him well during his National Guard Training. I know he will be an asset to the Unit he will be assigned to upon graduation." CFPD Chief Kovac.

Happy 237th Birthday US Army

The Army’s Birthday: 14 June 1775

When the American Revolution broke out, the rebellious colonies did not possess an army in the modern sense. Rather, the revolutionaries fielded an amateur force of colonial troops, cobbled together from various New England militia companies.  They had no unified chain of command, and although Artemas Ward of Massachusetts exercised authority by informal agreement, officers from other colonies were not obligated to obey his orders.  The American volunteers were led, equipped, armed, paid for, and supported by the colonies from which they were raised.
