Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) Awards Grants for 2014

The Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) has just awarded eleven grants for 2014. The combined amount of these grants equals $53,612, and was given in the areas of County Youth K-12, Aging in Place for Seniors, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). These topics represent the initiatives CCF has identified as being instrumental in helping our community.

The five members of the Foundation’s Grant Committee received 15 grant applications. A great deal of interest was generated by our 2014 initiatives, resulting in an excellent group of submitted applications for funding.

Calaveras Community Foundation - Grant Cycle Opens

In 2013, Calaveras Community Foundation introduced the idea of focusing on initiatives for grant giving. The two initiatives chosen were: Aging in Place for Seniors and Support for Learning of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). The results, based on the number of viable applications received were gratifying.  In 2014, those same two initiatives will still be in place with the addition of a third: County Youth – designed to foster youth development in extra-curricular activities for ages K-12.

An additional change in the 2014 grant processing cycle is an earlier submission period for all grants applications. Applications will begin to be accepted on March 1, 2014 and must be submitted to CCF by 5:00 PM on Friday, March 31, 2014.  As in 2013, ALL applications for competitive grants MUST address one of the three initiatives to be considered for funding. Complete details, application guidelines and fillable forms are now available on the website www.calaverascommunityfoundation.org in the “Grants and Scholarships” area.

Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) recently received a $1,250 donation from Umpqua Bank

A loyal supporter of CCF’s causes, this donation brings monies received since 2010 from Umpqua Bank to nearly $6,250.

Christy Maynard, Umpqua Bank Angels Camp Store Manager and Board member of CCF along with Diana Scaparro-Cammisa, Umpqua Bank San Andreas Store Manager, state: “Community is at the heart of all we do at Umpqua Bank and we are proud to make a contribution to CCF.  We know this will promote wellness and stability in our Calaveras County communities, specifically in regards to youth development, education and the arts.”  Umpqua has additional branches in Copperopolis, and Valley Springs.

Federlein Family Fund Donates to Calaveras Community Foundation

Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) has been the recipient of over $81,000 over the past several years from The Federlein Family Fund at the San Francisco Foundation specifically to benefit area seniors.  An additional generous grant of $20,000 received in December enabled CCF to provide surprise grants to various local organizations. These funds are in memory of Lloyd Federlein.

Chris Federlein states, “I have had the opportunity to be involved in elder care for a number of years and have seen the impact of aging on people’s ability to make sound decisions and to continue to live safely in their own homes.  It is especially difficult for seniors who have limited financial resources and no or little family support.  I feel fortunate that I am in a position where I can contribute financially to organizations that help seniors not only meet their basic needs, but also enhance their quality of life.  Working with the Calaveras Community Foundation to support organizations in Calaveras County that work toward those goals enables me to give back to the community and provide resources that are desperately needed.” 

2013 Career & Technical Training (C&TT) Scholarships Awarded

Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) presented Career and Technical Training scholarships to eight high school students from both Bret Harte and Calaveras High Schools at recent award ceremonies. Each recipient will receive $1200.

Graduating high school students and their anticipated college and field of study are as follows: Sierra Wade-Bryan’s College-Court Reporting; Carleigh Bates-Cabrillo College-Diagnostic Imaging; Clay Norman-No. California College of Construction-Heavy Equipment; Raymond Schulze-Modesto JC-Fire Service; Jordan Fisher-Sacramento City College-Medical; Benton Frye-Delta College-Mechanics; Kyle Caires-Consumnes River College-Electrical Lineman; and Kayla Sadler-Modesto JC-Agriculture.

The widely varied fields of study above illustrate that there are many other career paths or certificates of training other than traditional four-year degrees. 2013 is the third year that these scholarships have been given.

Black Oak Casino Resort Donates to the Sober Grad Night Foundation

The Sober Grad Night Foundation has received a $1000 donation on behalf of Black Oak Casino Resort from the Calaveras Community Foundation. This is the 24^th year the Sober Grad Night Foundation has been conducting grad night festivities, and Black Oak Casino has been a longstanding underwriter of the costs to provide this valuable event.

Calaveras Community Foundation Receives Save Mart CARES Donation

For the second year in a row, Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) has received a generous $5000 donation from Save Mart Supermarket’s charitable organization, Save Mart CARES. These funds benefit the Career and Technical Training (C&TT) Scholarship Fund. At this level of donation, Save Mart moves into the ranks of a corporate partner and CCF is most grateful for Save Mart’s continued support. 

Federlein Family Fund Donates to Calaveras Community Foundation

Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) has been the recipient of over $63,000 in the past three years from The Federlein Family Fund at the San Francisco Foundation specifically to benefit area seniors.  An additional generous grant of $15,000 received earlier this year has jump started CCF’s 2013 fundraising efforts and will support our ongoing senior initiative.

Calaveras Community Foundation receives donation from El Dorado Savings Bank

El Dorado Savings Bank has recently donated $1,000 to the Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF). The contribution is the continuation of a beneficial partnership between El Dorado Savings and the Foundation. This 2013 contribution will support a wide range of non-profit organizations and worthy causes in the Calaveras Community. Ms. Dougherty and the San Andreas El Dorado Savings Branch office maintain a focused commitment to support the local community in Calaveras County. 

JACKSON RANCHERIA DONATES TO THE CALAVERAS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION - press release

The Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort has recently donated $10,000 to the Calaveras Community Foundation. The 2012 contribution was a special commemorative donation on behalf of Margaret Dalton who established the Rancheria in 1985 and who maintained a determined commitment to support the local community and non-profit organizations in both Amador and Calaveras County.

2012’s donation is also in memory of Allen Breed a longtime Foundation Board member who developed the partnership between the Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort and the Calaveras Community Foundation.

“It is our pleasure to continue the wonderful partnership between the Calaveras Community Foundation and the Rancheria,” said Rich Hoffman, CEO. “Tribal Chairwoman Margaret Dalton had a special interest in the underprivileged in Calaveras County who are the very individuals the Foundation strives to help. In memory of the late Ms. Dalton, the Jackson Rancheria Tribal Council is pleased to grant this year’s donation on her behalf.”

Calaveras Community Foundation receives support from Black Oak

Black Oak Casino Resort has recently donated $3,500 to the Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF). The 2013 contribution is the beginning of a new partnership between Black Oak and the Foundation. The initial contribution will aid a wide range of non-profit organizations and worthy causes in the Calaveras Community, including a $1000 donation to the Grad Night Foundation of Calaveras County. Black Oak Casino Resort has always maintained a determined commitment to support the local community in both Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties. 

Community Garden receives grant funding

The Bill Albee Memorial Garden (Copperopolis Community Garden) received grant funding through the Calaveras Community Foundation to improve and enhance their community garden.

The grant monies will be used to build raised beds, which will help reduce access to the growing gopher population by using wire mesh at the base of each raised bed. It will also help hold in soils that are rich in nutrients. Some of the funds will be spend on irrigation and repairs on current irrigation.

Calaveras Community Foundation Announces More Grant Winners press release

Eleven local groups have been awarded a total of $21,843 in the second round of 2012 funding by the Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF). Grants to these community groups focused on special needs children, building maintenance, scouts, youth mentoring, history in the county, communications and feeding the hungry. Total competitive grants awarded in 2012 equaled $47,642.00.

Calaveras Community Foundation helps Calaveras County Deputy Sheriff's Association

The Calaveras County Deputy Sheriff’s Association establishes a new donor advised fund with a $3000 donation to the Calaveras Community Foundation.

The Calaveras Community Foundation has received a $3000 check from the Calaveras Deputy Sheriff’s Association. The DSA is an affiliation of sworn deputies and personnel from the Calaveras Sheriff’s Department. They independently raise funds for causes that benefit and promote public safety in the County. They also work with schools to provide extracurricular activities and provide scholarships for students wishing to pursue a law enforcement career.
